I really appreciate getting messages like this from summer coaches.
We are working together to manage a pitcher’s workload after he threw a lot of innings for his high school team (and had an incredible year).
Everyone involved (player, HS coach, summer coach, and me) planned a deload period after high school to let him rest a bit before the summer ball season started.
That meant managing his throwing volume and workload (this is where I have been involved) to make sure he isn’t throwing too much or too little. The sweet spot with managing workload is in the middle (it’s called Acute to Chronic ratio and it’s basically a mathematical formula).
But none of this works without everyone being on the same page so getting messages like this from his summer coach who is managing his in game pitch count and the games he starts is so important, and so much appreciated.
The lesson here is there is a lot of behind the scenes work that gets done with the players I work with and it goes so much beyond the time spent in the facility.
