The White Mountain National Forest is a federally managed forest contained within the White Mountains in the northeastern United States. It was established in 1918 as a result of the Weeks Act of 1911. The National Forest Foundation, chartered by Congress, engages Americans in community-based and national programs that promote the health and public enjoyment of the 193-million-acre National Forest

System, administers private gifts of funds and land for the benefit of the National Forests. http://www.nationalforests.org/

The Forest Service manages a system of 155 national forests, 20 national grasslands, and 222 research and experimental forests, as well as other special areas, covering more than 192 million acres of public land. The Forest Service has evolved into a 30,000 employee agency that manages the national forests for a number of multiple uses, including recreation, timber, wilderness, minerals, water grazing, fish, and wildlife.

REMINDER: Lincoln Woods Trail will close beginning June 15 through November 2026, when restoration work commences. The trail will be closed to protect health and safety during construction activities.

The trail suffered significant damage during several flooding events over the past decade. This is essential work to ensure the long-term viability of the trail resulting in reliable access to recreation opportunities.

It might be warm in lower elevations, but the mountains are expecting a storm Friday into Saturday. If you plan to hike, make sure to stay informed and have a way to check changing weather conditions. Be prepared for snow and cold and always share your hiking plans with someone else.
