Please not that I’m much smarter than this. I’m not sure why I thought I was bigger than the law of no new shoes and socks to do a hike of this magnitude. I was foolish and have no one to blame but the stupid side of JStewAfoot. That dude is a moron.

2021- First outing of the season. New arc haul. New Enigma custom. Base weight plummeting! Gonna take Ellie the Mountain Dog for a 20 mile jaunt on the PCT out by Warner Springs.

Back in my early days on trail Spam was a go to. Along with my good friends Daniel Dahl and Jason Todd we formed a cutting edge gourmet back country cuisine focus group trio charged with inventing culinary delights unheard of by the mainstream hiking community. Mixing in a nice canned meat treat to the Teriyaki tonight.

What started off as a beautiful morning on the PCT has quickly turned into a cold rainy day. Rather than continue to hike in these conditions- we found a nice flat area and set up tents quickly to avoid getting soaked to the bone. Here is today’s first lesson- weather changes very suddenly on the trail. It’s better to stop and shelter when you are able than to push on in poor conditions if you don’t have to. We have the appropriate rain gear, but we only have 4 more miles to go before camp. So we just decided to hole up. No harm done.

Happy Tuesday Facebook World. In a little less than 2 weeks I will be taking my first Pacific Crest Trail Section Hike of the season. It'll be a short little jaunt from Scissors Crossing to Warner Springs. My goal with JStew Afoot is to share trail insights with applications into real life experiences. Not sure how I will do this, but I'm anxious to see how my first swing goes. As I approach the big 50- now, more than ever, my middle age motto has deep profound relevance .... "Life is better on the trail" Cheers all- check back on Feb 22nd and 23rd!
