Why Do We Call It a "Penknife"?
Today, we call any small folding pocket knife a "penknife." But in the 1800s, the name was literal! Before factory-made steel nibs, everyone wrote with bird feathers (quills). But the tip of a feather goes dull very quickly. This diagram shows the original Penknife. It featured a specialized, deeply curved, razor-sharp blade designed for one specific geometric task: expertly slicing the hollow shaft of a goose feather at the perfect angle to create a fresh, ink-holding writing nib. 🪶🔪

When Robert Adams introduced this percussion revolver, it was known as a "Trigger cocking single action." Common language quickly evolved and these days we call this a Double-Action-Only.

The mechanism is simple, the arbor removeable, and it even has a spring hammer block on the left side, though this is sprung to the OFF position.

Having passed over John Moses Browning's automatic shotgun design, Wi******er soon found themselves competing with FN and Re*****on. They quickly sought to enter the autoloading market but found that Browning's patents were rock solid. In what we might call desperation, they used the nature of long recoil to produce a gun that loaded like a butter churn.

Stiff springs and careless handling had many a hunter staring down the barrel of his own freshly loaded firearm. Ultimately the gun took on the nickname "Widowmaker" for this reason.

Mossberg broke with tradition when releasing their first pump action shotgun. The Model 200 was meant to be affordable, reliable, and smooth. It uses a number of stamped parts and a simple, but robust lock. Overall it was styled like their bolt action rifles and features a glass-nylon slide grip. A detachable magazine, rubber butt pad, and false rail "rear sight" were standard. The 200 came with either swappable chokes (D) or an adjustable one (K)

The 500B was an official Mossberg bullpup chassis option for the Model 500 pump action shotgun. This unusual configuration sports a carry handle with inset sights and a foregrip mounted to the rectangular slide handle.
