Join us Saturday, May 16th from 10am–2pm for our last erg session at the (116 Union Street in Rockport) before we move to Megunticook Lake!

We've been rowing and erging meters all season, building up to our big finish at Dirigo Sprints on May 23rd at Barrett's Cove. Come watch the action, chat with our rowers, and learn more about what Megunticook Rowing has to offer whether you're 12 or 100!

Our Junior rowers are off to a great start this season with wins in Portland and Medford!

The Megunticook Loonies made their presence known at their first competition of the season on April 12, racing indoors at Waynflete’s gym in Portland. The event featured 2,000-meter erg races for both boys’ and girls’ teams, along with a fast-paced mixed relay. Competing against Maine Coast Rowing Association and Waynflete, the Loonies faced tough competition and competed like champs. The camaraderie and sportsmanship were outstanding all around! Read more on our website.

On May 3 the Loonies traveled to Medford, MA, for the Mayor's Cup Invitational. Coach Bob reports: "The first race of the day was the quad with Tucker, Grace, Lucy, Laura with the gold over MCR. Second race same four rowers with Natasha as cox in the V 4+ did not advance to the finals from their heat. Third race Novice mixed 4+ with Molli, Avery, Natasha, Vivian and Laura cox. They qualified for the B final where they faced Malden, a local team. They veered into our lane twice, and we clashed oars in the last 500. They got the bronze by a boat length. Great job by the team, especially the novice 4, racing with one short week on the water."

Docks are in and we are READY TO ROW!

Getting our docks into place on beautiful Megunticook Lake is no easy feat. Floats need to be removed from storage and assembled, then towed into position at Barrett's Cove. Our amazing team of volunteers got the job done in record time this year! Many thanks to all of our dedicated members, family, and friends who came out to help.

Have you always dreamed of learning to row? Make this the year to do it! We'll be holding Learn-to-Row classes on the water (weather permitting) all season long. No experience is necessary and anyone over the age of 12 is welcome to sign up. More info about this year's Learn-to-Row sessions will be posted on our website soon.

Want to stay in the loop? DM us with your email address to receive our monthly newsletter and find out about classes and events.

March is a difficult month to be a Mainer. The snow. The mud. The rain. The snow. IYKYK! But once March rounds the mid point, it only means one thing to us—ONE MONTH 'TIL DOCKS IN!

Now, only a foolish Mainer would make promises they can't keep, but—fingers crossed—we'll be putting docks back in at beautiful Megunticook Lake in just about one month, weather permitting! 🤞

Watch our website and socials for dates and deets, and come on out to help if you're so inclined! Interested in joining us on the water this season? Check out our Learn-to-Row program designed just for newbies.

See you on the water soon!

Would you like some great rowing advice from a person who won first place in their division at the Head of the Charles regatta at age 80? We thought you might! Meet Megunticook Rowing member Cathy Kemper. Anyone who has met Cathy knows just what a powerhouse she is on and off the water, and we couldn't be more thrilled to feature her in our "Meet the Rowers" series!

"Rowing is a metaphor for life," says Cathy. "Don’t worry about the last stroke, focus on the one you’re on now, ‘cause that’s the one you can fix."

Thinking about taking up rowing? "Just do it!" says Cathy. "Bring a friend to share trials, tribulations, and triumphs. Or make new friends, while you learn about rowing and yourself

And finally: "Never worry about where you sit in the boat! The only bad seat is on shore."

Our last FREE indoor learn to row session happens March 23–27 at the PenBay YMCA. See the link in comments for more info and to read more about Cathy Kemper. Just do it!

The Megunticook Rowing team headed up to Troy Howard Middle School in Belfast last week for more school outreach. We met with 125 (yes 125!!!) 6–8th graders, and we were blown away by how quickly they picked up the skills Coach Bob showed them. We're looking forward to seeing some of them join us on the water in our juniors program this spring!

Our club rowing program is designed for young rowers who are just learning to row. This program introduces the fundamentals of rowing while building technique, endurance, and an appreciation for time on the water in a super stable situation.

Do you know a young rower who would like to join our Club Program? Visit our website (link in comments) for more info!

Thanks to Coach Bob and team members, Denise, Mark, and Marnie for leading this school outreach session!
