Boundaries not only protect our time and energy, but they also help to protect our relationships. They make us examine our own limits and challenge us to communicate more directly, which helps to prevent miscommunications, misunderstandings and built up resentment.

If you’re constantly feeling pulled to the edge of burnout while also believing you need to be more productive - it’s not you, it’s internalized capitalism.

Internalized capitalism is a systemic problem, not simply an individual one. BUT, that doesn’t negate the importance of self awareness because self awareness is access to change. What we are not aware of, we cannot start to consciously change.

You can’t break the cycle of burnout and weighing your worth on how productive you are unless you first realize how attached you are to the actions and beliefs that make you feel this way. You can’t break the cycle unless you’re actively leaning in to change it.

Here’s four places to start:

1️⃣ Embrace self awareness
2️⃣ Appreciate ritual
3️⃣ Normalize leisure
4️⃣ Find like minded conscious creators

This way of living wreaks havoc on our nervous system and doesn’t foster an environment where we feel like we can truly flourish.

When I saw that USAID was being dismantled and the government would be withdrawing aid to international countries that we have historically reported, it would have been really easy to feel gutted, hopeless, indignant.

Some of the most meaningful work of my career was with these very organizations and the relationships I formed while working at them.

However, there is no growth that can come from a place of “How could they” as we place power outside of ourselves and into the hands of other people.

Here is some raw, unfiltered truth that I believe empaths need to hear right now amongst our VUCA world — you are not responsible for fixing everything and everyone.

The world is super chaotic right now, and pain is everywhere but you are not meant to carry it all.

You can’t.

Your compassion is a gift, not a burden, and you need to learn how to protect your own energy and be self compassionate with yourself so that you can extend that compassion to others and your community around you.

Also in doing that, remember that boundaries are your lifeline because if you do not protect your energy, you will burn out.

I've been reflecting a lot over the past week on how challenging it is to be a human being right now, given the state of the world, given the state of the political climate, given the emotional angst and grief and pain that is so pervasive.

It is challenging to be ourselves, to be embodied, to embrace our own emotional interiors, and for us empaths – who over index on feeling – that much more difficult.

👉 However, I do believe that one of the most radical acts we can take right now is to embrace our own humanity, and to embrace being a human being, rather than a human doing.

As you become aware and gain new insights about your current experience of yourself and the world around you, you can begin to *accept* what you’re experiencing by taking radical responsibility for the thoughts, feelings, and reactions YOU are having to what is happening, thus, leading to intentional action and growth as you shift into becoming the source of your own experience.

👋 Hi, how are you really?

As a default, you’d probably answer “Oh, I’m fine!” But that’s probably not the whole truth, right?

If I were to take a deep breath and sense into how I’m really feeling, the answer would be I am infuriated. I am angry. I am charged up around what's happening in our own political and socio economic climate.

But here’s the thing– empaths are often dishonest, and we’ve learned to be dishonest as a defense mechanism and trauma response. Time and time again, when sharing our BIG emotions, our caretakers or people we love the most didn't know how to hold and validate our big and raw feelings without having their own need to fix or lessen them for us.

So we learned to hide them, to disassociate from them, or to hide from them behind our caretaking and people pleasing tendencies.

BUT! If we're going to commit to thriving as empathpreneurs in this chaotic, fear-inducing world that we're living in right now, it starts with acknowledging and being radically honest about what we are experiencing around what we are feeling.
