The Great Guernsey Trail

The Great Guernsey Trail is a seven mile paved trail that runs from E. Cambridge to Lore City Ohio. All Public support is appreciated.

The Great Guernsey Trail is the result of a lot of hard work and dedication of the Guernsey County Community Development’s Executive Board of Directors. The land that the Great Guernsey Trail is on is the old B&O Railroad bed and was originally bought from CSX Railroad by the Guernsey County Community Improvement Corporation, who then sold it to the Guernsey County Community Development Corporatio

n. The CDC was able to secure a Clean Ohio Grant to purchase the railbed and to refurbish the bridges. The original trail was only paved for the first mile using an Ohio Department of Natural Resources Grant. The remaining paved portion was paved using an Ohio Department of Transportation Grant and an Ohio Department of Natural Resources Grant. Currently the Guernsey County Community Development has paved a total of 7 miles of trail and is working hard to lengthen the trail by purchasing more ground. The number of people who use the trail is tremendous the highest single day count has been over 1,000 people!

🎃 Treats on the Trail 🎃
This Saturday!

Join us on Saturday, October 25th from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Lore City Park in Lore City, Ohio for Treats on the Trail!

This is a fun and safe trick-or-treating event along the trail, featuring local businesses and community organizations. Bring the kids dressed in their favorite costumes and enjoy an afternoon of treats, laughter, and fall fun!

Don’t forget, the best costume will win a $25 gift card!

We can’t wait to see everyone there!

The shirts were produced by Lomeda Services. We partner with Lomeda to provide employment opportunities for individuals with barriers to employment! This is another way we work to make our community a great place to live and work!

We have a new story for our Story Walk on The Great Guernsey Trail! You can enjoy the experience by going to the trailhead on Corduroy Rd. While you are out and about, be sure to enjoy the beautiful scenery that fall is bringing to our trail.

We excited to share some news with our trail fans! A new business in Lore City will be offering bicycle rentals. They are having a soft opening this weekend (9/26-9/28) and they will also have coffee for sale.

The company is called Nervous Wreck Bicycle & Coffee Co. and is located at 205 Main St. Lore City, Ohio.

Bicycle rentals have been one of the most requested services and we are thrilled that trail users will now have the option to rent bikes.

So please, support a local business and help spread the word.

First, we want to apologize for the delay in announcing our winner. The announcement was originally planned for September 19th, but due to illness, we were unable to share the results on time. Thank you for your patience! 💚

We carefully reviewed every submission and are excited to share that, by popular vote, the winner of our Animals on the Trail Photo Contest is… 🦋 Carole Hackett with her stunning butterfly photo! 🦋

Carole’s photo will now be featured as our new cover photo. Congratulations, Carole! 🎉

A huge thank-you to everyone who participated, your photos made this a very tough decision, and we loved seeing the beauty of wildlife captured along the trail.

The slip on the trail has been repaired and it looks amazing. So get out there and enjoy our beautiful trail!

Update: the crew worked long hours to complete the project and as a result the trail is now open. Thank you everyone for your patience and understanding.

The work continues on the slip that occurred on The Great Guernsey Trail. Construction crews will continue to work on this project for the next three weeks. Please be aware that the trail is CLOSED from the Deerfield Rd crossing, east to the Lore City bridge. Safety fencing has been erected in either end to ensure no one goes near the work area. We appreciate everyone’s patience while this work is being completed.
