After months of trail work, Lake 22 opened so we went to check it out. For my winter hikers, trail is snow free, lots of wet areas so dig out the waterproof boots. And as always, it’s a beautiful hike. A few downed trees on the trail but you can climb over. Enjoy winter hiking and the new trail improvements. Waterfalls are full, sound carries through most of the hike too.

Hiked Big and Little Greider Lakes on this beautiful 4th of July, located near the Sultan Basin Watershed. I have enjoyed this hike several times and find it so peaceful. 10 miles RT, massive landslide about mile 3 but simple repairs & reroute do look good with a bit of scrambling, and pretty solid straight uphill after first 2 miles (for those wanting to know)😊
For families take the kiddos out and walk 1.25 miles (fairly flat during this part) and show them where their drinking water comes and take advantage to teach respect for nature & our resources. Then offer them treats at Sultan bakery, explore War memorial or the awesome reptile zoo.

Stunning Saturday with spring like weather @ 65* and wonderful friends Dan and Stefers. Headed north to Mount Cavanaugh where a large percentage of snow melted in just 4 days. Headed home, got a call from Brent asking if I wanted to take advantage of the day and go for an after work hike. Sure!! So we headed east to the ever popular Mountain Loop Highway, avoiding all the tourist trap hikes and went to Marten Creek and had it all to ourselves. Today was my kind of day - two great hikes, blue bird skies, 11 miles, 2,200’ elevation gained, had snow but the worst was at about 2,000’ and post holing over my knee. That’s a workout, ❤️

I always think about exploring some of the “non hiking” areas on Mountain Loop Highway. Took advantage of this utterly gorgeous day and took the dogs out to a trail just past Red Bridge then to Gold Basin Campground. Checked out the file that’s about 1/2 mile long and 25’ tall and wall is made with trees cut as they cleared from the 14 acres. Sediment from the hillside was harming salmon habitat.

I recently shared with a friend that most back packs have a whistle on them just in case you need one. Did you know that? Often found on the upper strap of your pack. All my hiking packs have it, my laptop pack has it but my other misc one does not. Check yours 😊
