Why the rules/guidelines? The person who grooms these trails likes to ride his fat bike during the winter on such trails. Riding on a trail that has been walked on is like driving on a washboard road. Riding on one with deep boot prints is like driving on a road filled with potholes. All we're asking is some consideration for the many hours and dollars donated by this individual. The trail around the lake is open to boot only traffic. It gets two passes of the groomer as it goes out and back and ends up a bit firmer than the others (except the SE corner). The other 3 trails are snow shoe, ski or fat bike only. You do have the option to walk anywhere with only boots, just not on the groomed Forest and Park Loops.

We're looking at picking up a small snowmobile to helpe get the trails opened up next season more quickly after storms and wind events. In the past we've been snowshoeing which would take 2-3 days to get the trails prepped for grooming and by then the next storm would pass and we'd be behind. So we plan to be operating the trail system again next season. Like and share this post if you have used and look forward to using the Calumet Lake Trails next season.

Township wants the trail around the Lake groomed next season. Will be looking for a cheap snowmobile that can pull a light drag to run over the drifts rather than shoveling or snowblowing. If there is interest in having the other 3+ miles of trail for fat biking/back country skiing/snow shoeing groomed please comment.
