Couldn't ask for a nicer week of weather for Fall grooming! With most of the leaves now off the trees, we are in our final push of clearing on 80km of trail. Since we do not make snow at Maplelag, we try to have the deck as clear as possible so we can open the trails on minimal snow for winter activities.

Happy Birthday to Jonell! Couldn't ask for a better present than to be home after her kidney transplant and enjoying a easy paddle on north twin lake at Maplelag afternoon. (Be sure to ask about paddling here when staying at Maplelag)

At first we didn't feel comfortable hosting Maplelag day after the passing of Mary but we recently discovered a journal entry by Mary, highlighting one of her favorite times of year! Now it only seems proper. Here are a few pages and will have the full entry on display and a little memorial. (A formal service will occur later this Fall)

Maplelag didn't transform for us but for our guests and others to enjoy. Mary would invite people to join or lead her on walks. Although she will not be here in flesh, we invite you to come and enjoy the trails and other offerings on October 17th. Mary will be smiling from above!

It is with heavy hearts but also with joy we celebrate the life of our beloved Mary, one of the founders of Maplelag. She passed to her final resting place in heaven on October 9th.

She lived a complete life of service, defining the word hospitality helping create a place for thousands to retreat, restore, rejuvenate and renew. Always took extra time to appreciate the beauty of nature in all seasons.

She touched the lives of many and always made extra the effort to make someone smile, feel comfortable and special. She loved her family, friends and guests dearly, always giving hugs. There were hard moments for sure, but she maintained positivity and lived a life based on faith and truly is in a better place.

There are so many photos we can share, here are a few and we'd love to hear a memory or see a photo you might have to reflect on this amazing individual.

Last spring we slowly started remodeling parts of the "Refuge" building which hasn't been used since the loss of the main lodge at Maplelag four years ago.

We completed a laundry room which was intended when the building was first built in the early 2000’s. As resources have allowed, we started construction in the Health Center room, located in the lower level.

We will eventually add a full kitchen and update sleeping rooms and spaces and other upgrades including flooring. We have no specific timeline to complete but hopefully by early winter. We have some fun ideas to make it unique and different while maintaining the original Maplelag feel. Excited for the final outcome!

Thanks to everyone that supports Maplelag with lodging and day visits and all membership purchasers from individual, family, community and legacy which helps us keep moving forward.

Another beautiful Fall weekend! October a special month as we move through the Autumn season....first frost of the year on Friday…..always gets us excited as we prepare for the next season to come as we fully appreciate the one now!

It has been two weeks since Jonell had her kidney transplant, one week since being released from the hospital. Jonell continues to recover in Rochester through the ups and downs, monitoring the numbers and attending appointments.

We are extremely grateful for the support and each act of kindness. Thank you for the continued prayers, thoughts, positive vibes and love.

What a weekend of fall color! After a rainy Saturday that was beautiful in its own way, the sun popped out on Sunday and accentuated the peak of most of the maples around Maplelag. Calm conditions made for a magical day and full on Fall globe feel.

The deep woods still have plenty of green and the oaks, birch and poplar trees will soon follow with their display. Mushrooms are loving all the recent rain with new ones popping up daily.

Always a treat to have guests to appreciate and enjoy this special time of year at Maplelag. Thank you!
