Happy Memorial Day weekend from Maplelag! A weekend we remember all of those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice and show gratitude to those that serve. Always a nice service at the nearby cemetery along the Goat Ranch rd. Monday morning.

Sauna available for day trail users this weekend with one of the best times of the year to be on the trails. The next phase of wildflowers are emerging from the forest floor and the mountain bike track is rolling well.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the Moms out there including two of the best...Mary and Jonell!

As Jonell continues to wait for a living kidney donor, she lives her life to the fullest serving and giving to others with an inspiring positive attitude even on days when not feeling the best.

Although Mary no longer lives at Maplelag, she brings smiles and a peace to those around her as she lives with dementia. Blessings to these two and all the moms!

Spring update: Although we had to put our next planned major renovation/remodel on hold, we have been working on some smaller projects.

The Red Caboose is getting new windows and flooring, we completed the finishing touches on the last small room in the remodeled Great Northern building (which is available to rent). Benches replaced for outdoor events and the first phase of a “simple” renovation of the Health Center lodging which will be available to rent winter 26/27.

Happy Earth Day! Ice went off Little Sugarbush lake this past weekend which is always an exciting time of year just like when it freezes over! True to form the loons immediately returned complimenting the busy sounds of the woods.

As we transition to the next season, a great time of year to be on the trails whether hiking taking in the first wildflowers or laps on the mountain bike course which is now open. The local gravel, some of the best kept secret gravel riding in the state is at its prime.

Fun and very inspiring meeting with American Tree Farm System representative Gary Anderson this week as we renewed our membership. Gary still grooming and skiing strong at 85!

Maplelag has been part of the Tree Farm program for over 4 decades as we are in our fifth generation family helping with tree planting, with 100's of thousands of trees planted.

We look forward to another decade of sustaining the forest at Maplelag while providing recreation opportunity for all among the woods, water and wildlife. We also hope to complete our tree grove memorial this summer where we recognize loved ones that have connection to Maplelag.

Winter returns! Nice to see a few skiers out this morning as we welcomed a late season snowfall and groomed and opened up a few trails. We will plan to have select trails open until Wednesday morning. Lodging available all through spring with sauna and special pricing!

With grooming and skiing coming to an end (we think) we’ve been full on firewood cutting for the saunas and Hygge taking advantage of the ideal conditions.

With 300 trees cleared off the trails last summer and fall from the solstice 2025 storm, there is no shortage of wood to harvest. It’s rewarding process to cut, split to eventually stoke the fires for the cozy heat.

We're excited to be part of the She Ascends - Women's Hiking and Wellness Women’s Hiking & Wellness Expo to talk about the spaces at Maplelag for wellness and outdoor themed experiences.

Join us on April 11 from 11:30-3:30 at Detroit Lakes High School along with 50 other vendors for a day of shopping, wellness, connection, and community.

Winter tracked on through to kick off the weekend blanketing Maplelag with 6-7" of dense snow. Around 15km of trail has been groomed and is now open for late season skiing. Pretty awesome conditions for mid March! Additional trail to be groomed Sunday with daily grooming planned until Thursday morning.

As we reflect back on this winter season, we want to thank all our guests, day and overnight that visited and supported us...we appreciate it very much!

Couldn’t ask for a better snow season with early snow starting in mid November, lasting to early March. Conditions maybe not ideal this month but we appreciate the “Just Ski” attitude and commitment. Every year is different and this season was no exception which makes winter all the more magical.

We continue to be open for lodging this spring.
