Saturday's SMSL Invitational proved to be a memorable day as several long-standing records that had stood for more than 30 years were rewritten.

Congratulations to Forrest Farm's Emma E. for breaking the 13–14 Girls 50 Yard Breaststroke record with a fantastic time of 31.91! Emma eclipsed the previous record of 32.10 set by Town Creek swimmer D. Parker on 06/01/96!

It was exciting to witness so many historic performances throughout the day and to see records that had stood the test of time finally fall.

Way to go, Emma, on an outstanding swim and an incredible accomplishment! Congratulations on etching your name into the SMSL record book! 🦈

They did it again!

After breaking the 13–14 Boys 50 Meter Backstroke and Freestyle records earlier this season, Elks swimmers Tyler W. and Aaron D. closed out the summer in spectacular fashion at Saturday's SMSL Invitational, adding the 13–14 Boys 50 Yard Backstroke and Freestyle records to their growing list of accomplishments.

Tyler got the record-breaking started, blazing to a new 13–14 Boys 50 Yard Backstroke record with a time of 26.55, surpassing the previous mark of 27.02 set by Tritons swimmer John Masiello on 06/27/19.

Then came one of the most exciting races of the day. BOTH Tyler and Aaron shattered the 13–14 Boys 50 Yard Freestyle record, finishing with incredible dead even matching times of 22.83! They eclipsed the previous record of 23.75, which had stood for more than 34 years after being set by Pax River swimmer N. Stamos on 06/01/92.

Congratulations to Tyler and Aaron on an unforgettable season. We can't wait to see what these talented swimmers accomplish next year as they move up to the 15–18 age group!

Today we were honored to welcome Carol Serb, the namesake of the Carol Serb Sportsmanship Award, to our 2026 SMSL Invitational Championship Meet. Carol was on hand to personally present each team’s recipient before the start of the meet, making this recognition even more meaningful for our swimmers.

As one of the founders of the Southern Maryland Swim League, Carol Serb believed in building not only strong swimmers, but strong teammates and individuals. This award recognizes swimmers who maintain a positive attitude, give their all at practice, encourage less experienced teammates, cheer on their fellow swimmers, and consistently demonstrate outstanding sportsmanship. Each season, every team selects one swimmer who best exemplifies these qualities.

The pool is prepped, the lanes are set, and we’re ready to welcome everyone for the 2026 SMSL Invitational Championship Meet tomorrow! 🏊💙

We’re excited to watch the culmination of our swimmers’ hard work, dedication, and determination all summer long. Best of luck to every athlete as they take to the water—we can’t wait to see you shine!

Thank you to everyone who came out for our annual SMSL Relay Carnival this morning! 💙

We are so sorry that the power outage prevented us from being able to hold the event, but we’re grateful we were still able to get all of our swimmers together for our annual league photo. Seeing so many smiling faces gathered together was a great reminder of what makes our SMSL community so special!

We truly appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we waited to see if the power would be restored and we would be able to proceed. Thank you for sticking with us and for always supporting our swimmers and our league! 🏊‍♀️

He did it again! For the second year in a row, congratulations to Forrest Farm swimmer Luke Thompson, winner of the 2026 SMSL “Star-Spangled Swimmers” League T-Shirt Design Contest! And a special thank you to our t-shirt sponsors, whose generous donations allowed us to provide our nearly 700 swimmers in the league with a shirt. We're excited to see the kids wearing them this weekend at the annual Relay Carnival and around town in the months to come!
