🌲Sunday trail review 🌿

We spent an afternoon checking out the Bear and Grizzly Mountain Trail over at Raisin Woods Mountain Bike Park in Dalton, and it ended up being a great way to get out on a trail and not leave or be far from town.

One of the best parts of this trail is how shaded it is. Even on a warmer afternoon, the tree cover kept the trail cool and comfortable almost the entire time we were out there. The forest scenery is peaceful, and we saw plenty of spring greenery along the way.

Since this is primarily a mountain bike trail, the paths are wider than your typical hiking trail in many sections, which makes it nice for walking side-by-side with your hiking partner instead of constantly hiking single file.

The trail itself is mostly gentle rolling terrain without any major climbs, making it a great option for an easy active day or casual trail run. Being so close to Dalton also makes it perfect when you want a quick outdoor escape without driving far.

One thing to note: the trail signage could definitely be improved. There are several intersections and connecting paths, and it can get a little confusing at times if you’re unfamiliar with the trail system. Having a trail map downloaded beforehand is probably a good idea. We ended up on a couple of loops that we didn’t know we had started.

Overall, this is a solid easy trail option if you’re looking for a shaded walk in the woods with convenient access close to town.

🥾 Sunday Trail Spotlight: Miller Trail at Brasstown Valley Resort ⛰️

It was a celebration weekend for us, so we headed to Brasstown Valley Resort to treat ourselves—and of course, we had to hit the trails while we were there!

The resort features approximately 9 miles of on-site hiking trails, with the most popular being the Miller Trek. There are options ranging from a shorter 2.5-mile loop to a more challenging 6.5-mile adventure with over 1,200 feet of elevation gain.

We chose the Blue Loop, and a quick heads-up: some of the trail signage could be better, but the trees are clearly marked, making the route fairly easy to follow.

This trail is suitable for most hikers, though there are some steady climbs and descents that will definitely get your heart pumping. Nothing overly technical—just a solid moderate hike with rewarding views.

The trail winds through beautiful hardwood forest, and the tulip poplar trees were in full bloom, scattering their unique flowers all along the path. With several small stream crossings, parts of the trail were a bit muddy, so be sure to wear good shoes.

We didn’t see another person the entire time, but we did spot a couple of deer—although they noticed us before we could snap a picture!

One of the best parts? After your hike, you can head straight to the lodge for a delicious lunch overlooking the golf course.

Be sure to check out our website for a full review of our overnight stay!

⭐ Trail Highlights:
• 2.5- to 6.5-mile loop options
• Moderate difficulty
• Beautiful mountain overlooks
• Dog-friendly (leashed)
• Convenient on-site parking and resort amenities

📍 About 1 hour and 45 minutes from both our Calhoun and Dalton stores.

If you’re in the Blairsville or Young Harris area and looking for a peaceful, less-crowded trail, you do not have to be staying at the resort to access these trails. That makes them a great addition to your day whenever you’re in the area.
