A Birmingham marksman earned a nickname that still sounds like a dare: “Tackhole” Lee. 🎯
Thomas Kirkpatrick “Tackhole” Lee became famous for extraordinary accuracy with a r***e, pistol and sh***un. His nickname reportedly came from his ability to drive a tack into a board with a r***e shot from 30 feet away.
In 1913, Lee recorded a r***e score of 1,999 out of 2,000 and later achieved a perfect 2,000 out of 2,000. Over his shooting career, accounts credit him with setting more than 28 world records and winning more than 900 trophies. Constant Contact
Then there was his challenge.
Lee reportedly maintained a standing offer of $15,000 to anyone who could defeat him in a combined r***e, pistol and sh***un competition. Accounts of his career say nobody ever collected. Constant Contact
He eventually put that shooting expertise to work in Birmingham, forming the T.K. Lee Company and developing the Lee Dot gunsight. Constant Contact
In 1971, “Tackhole” Lee was inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame. Alabama Sports Hall of Fame
Had you ever heard of Birmingham's “Tackhole” Lee?
