After a couple tune up events, these girls were ready to showcase themselves at the FireStix College Exposure Tournament. They started with pool play Thursday and would eventually fall in the first round of bracket play. They had a lot of awesome plays this weekend, and a few innings they can really grow from.
Game 1 vs Tri-Valley Twisters did not go to plan. The girls would tally 4 runs on 5 hits in the top of the 1st inning, but then the bats would struggle to find gaps. They would not be able to hold the lead as the Twisters chipped away. The girls would fall 6-10 in this game.
Game 2 vs GR Flames did not start well for the girls. Trailing 6-0 after 3 innings, the girls found their groove. They would score 4 runs on 4 hits in the bottom of the 4th inning to cut the deficit to 6-4. They weren’t done though. In the bottom of the 5th, the girls would tally another 5 runs on 6 hits. Securing a 9-6 win against Flames.
Game 3 vs Ice Fastpitch started out with the girls on the ropes. In a tough top of the 1st, the girls would allow 6 runs to score. They did not worry, and they let their bats do the talking. In what eventually would be a 50 minute 1st inning, the girls would start with 2 of the first 3 getting out and go on to score 12 runs on 9 hits. In the top of the second, Ice would push across 2 more runs. Leading 12-8 entering the bottom of the 2nd, the girls weren't done showing their offensive ability. The girls would score 8 more runs on 9 hits, including Kloie hitting her 1st Home Run! The girls would lock in the 20-9 win against Ice.
Game 4 vs Batbusters Tocco did not go according to plan. In a game they would find a lot of learning, they would struggle to use their bats to overcome. Falling 3-13, while only being out hit by 1.
The 1st round of bracket play started with the girls playing lights out. In the top of the 1st, the girls overcame an error and a blooper to hold Batbusters Phillips scoreless. The girls came out in the bottom of the 1st and scored 3 runs on 5 hits. Top of the 2nd the girls overcame 2 free base runners, giving up no runs. In the bottom of the 2nd the girls would score 3 runs on 4 hits, with all 3 runs coming on a big Home Run. The 1st one for Briahna! In the top of the 4th Batbusters would manage 4 runs on 3 hits. After a quick bottom of the 4th, the girls were up 6-4. That's when the trouble started. They could not catch a break, and it would prove to be the downfall they could not overcome.
These girls battled all weekend, and although things didn’t end how it was expected, they have a lot to build on. The explosive output on offense and the ability to make big time plays, is something they have always known they can do. As they enter a period with a weekend off, they have the time and motivation to work on cleaning things up and putting a whole game together.
