UNEXPLAINED BIRD ILLNESS UPDATE - Please follow these guidelines for Kentucky...

IN BOONE, BULLITT, CAMPBELL, JEFFERSON, KENTON & MADISON Counties:
• Stop feeding birds until further notice (when this issue has been resolved).

STATEWIDE:
• Clean feeders and birdbaths with a ~10% bleach solution (1 part bleach, 9 parts water), rinse with water and allow to air dry;
• Do not touch birds. Wear disposable gloves to pick up dead birds, or place an inverted plastic bag over your hand to avoid direct contact with a bird; and
• Keep pets (including birds) away from sick or dead wild birds.
• Common grackles, blue jays, European starlings and American robins appear most affected, but other species of songbirds have been reported.

Our investigation of unexplained wild bird illness continues:
• No definitive cause of illness or death has been determined.
• No human health, domestic livestock or poultry issues have been reported.
