🔮 PREDICTED XI vs MANCHESTER CITY

We expect Frank Lampard to stick with his familiar 4-2-3-1 formation at the Etihad, but fitness could play a major part in the final selection.

Frank Onyeka and Sidiki Cherif both have fitness concerns, while Haji Wright remains unavailable. If Onyeka is passed fit, he could come straight into midfield. Gus Hamer must also be pushing for his first start, particularly if Lamps wants more experience and creativity on the ball.

One of the big debates every week seems to be the same: does Tatsuhiro Sakamoto start or not? Would you give Tats the nod against City, or stick with Tchaouna on the right?

It is also not impossible that Lamps surprises us with a rare 5-3-2, bringing Amenda into a back three alongside Thomas and Pinnock to provide extra protection against City.

Would you stick with the usual formation, bring Hamer in, or go with five at the back?

Some worked spectacularly. Some… not quite so much!

IT’S ALL GREEK TO ME… 🇬🇷

We’re still trying to work out how Konstantinos Tzolakis kept that one out yesterday…

But moving on from the Greek wall in the Hull goal, two games into Premier League life seems a good time for an early selection debate.

Not to write anybody off. Not after two games. But are there any players you’re beginning to wonder about at this level?

Jay Dasilva was probably one of the biggest concerns among supporters in our pre-season discussions. Is he big enough? Strong enough? Can he defend against Premier League wingers?

So far, though? He might be proving a few of us wrong. Another encouraging performance yesterday, and he even popped up in the box with a late header on target.

Then there’s Tatsuhiro Sakamoto.

Every time we’ve left Tats out of one of our predicted or best XIs, you lot have let us know about it!

He certainly gave us something when he came on yesterday. But Hull’s winner also came from exactly the sort of rapid transition where Premier League games can punish you in seconds.

Could Tats have stopped it? Should he have taken the foul? Or was the bigger problem the space we left behind him?

And perhaps the bigger question:

Is Tats a Premier League starter? An impact player? Or are we even asking the question far too early?

What about elsewhere?

Who has surprised you positively so far, and is there anyone in this squad you’re genuinely concerned might struggle to make the step up?

Two games. Very small sample size. Nobody is being written off.

But that’s what Sunday morning football debates are for. 🩵

TWO GAMES. TWO DEFEATS. BUT PLENTY TO BUILD ON. 🩵

Nobody wanted to start our Premier League return with back-to-back defeats, and today will hurt because this was a game we absolutely could have got something from.

But let’s look at the performance.

For most of the game, we bossed it.

We had plenty of the ball, controlled long periods and looked like the side more likely to make something happen.

And but for a great save from Hull’s Greek keeper, we would have been 1-0 up. At this level, those moments can change an entire game.

Instead, we’ve come away with nothing.

That’s Premier League football. Fine margins, and you get punished.

But there’s a big difference between being disappointed and being discouraged.

We’re only TWO games into a 38-game season. There are 36 games still to play, and today showed there is plenty in this team to be positive about.

Nobody said staying in the Premier League was going to be easy. There will be setbacks, difficult afternoons and lessons along the way.

The important thing is how we respond.

We waited more than 9,000 days to get back here. We’re certainly not going to lose belief after two games.

Keep backing Frank. Keep backing the players.
