TeamPettyCash We make Jeep Cherokees go fast.

We are a team of Jeep Cherokee enthusiasts competing in the 24 Hours of LeMons endurance racing series, as well as the Ultra4 Off-Road Racing series. We race all over the West Coast on and off pavement, showing off what a glorified grocery getter is capable of, and having a lot of fun at the same time.

Bored? Commuting? Petty Cash Super Fan?

Then check out this podcast with Matt, the idiot who came up with this idea nearly 15 years ago. We talk about The 24 Hours of Lemons, King of The Hammers, and how all this came about. It’s fun, and if you don’t like it, I’ll give your money back.*

Well, the race didn’t go quite as planned. Two hours in we had completely used up a set of new rear brake pads; the proportioning valve wasn’t releasing the rear calipers and they were being held on at all times.

Shortly after bypassing the valve and replacing rear brakes, we got tangled up with a rookie team on their driver’s first lap on track. An unexpected move by them left our driver nowhere to go and the ensuing minor collision ripped off the fender and grill. This is the first contact we’ve had since 2012. Fifteen minutes with a hammer and we were back on track.

The rest of the weekend went smoothly, but we were out of contention. Nevertheless, we were able to finish 18th out of 61 cars, and something like 8th in class. Not the weekend we’d hoped for, but respectable for all the issues we had. We’ll be back!

Well...that was too good to last. After leading the race in P1 for 11 hours with only 3.5 to go the rear end grenaded, ejecting a ring gear bolt through the iron housing. The good news is that the car has the pace and endurance to win one someday. We’ll be back.

Testing and tech today for the latest race car to wear the Petty Cash logo, the BimmerVette. It’s a ‘76 Corvette with a BMW E36 2.5 liter straight six; car enthusiasts will remember the first Corvettes had inline sixes, also. Saturday and Sunday, we race!
