When I'm cutting a forcing cone I just “kiss” it at an 11 degree pitch. That's all you need to send the bullet on it's path down the barrel and enhance accuracy. You're doing more harm than good if you really lay into the reamer and seriously open up the forcing cone, because a bullet and with a hot powder charge behind it could blow out around the cone and not use propellant efficiently. There’s no fixing an over-cut forcing cone. I cut it lightly. If there has been some erosion over time, I can always re-cut the cone to make it like new. You can’t do that if the cone has been heavily cut on. Remember, more is not necessarily better when it comes to customizing single actions. — Jeff Ault

I recently received a matching pair of SASS R***r Vaqueros in .357 Magnum for a Six-Gun Magic Option #1 package plus honing and polishing of the cylinder chambers on each gun.

Even though these were a matched pair from the factory, the actions were rough and the point of aim and the point of impact were ridiculously low and left. I corrected them to spot-on accuracy using our custom barrel vice and shooting with factory spec ammo.

I’m always happy to tune your matched pair of single actions with the same trigger pull weight as the other. It is not an easy task, but wouldn’t you want your matched pair of single actions to shoot the same? I do not charge extra for this service. I want you happy with your single actions. It is February but yesterday was another weirdly warm winter day in Butte, Montana, so I headed out to the trap club. I took with me one of Bob Munden’s personal guns from his private collection to shoot a couple rounds. It is an early 1960s J.C. Higgins Sears Model 20 in 12 gauge. It is in very good to excellent condition, and boy, was I surprised at how nice the fit and finish is on this department-store shotgun. It is as solid as it gets, points naturally, and functions smoothly. It will slam fire just like an old Model 12 and is as nice as any of my Pre-1964 Wi******er Model 2s.

Not having shot since last season’s league, I missed the first two birds on post 3 on the 16-yard line, but ran the rest, 23 straight.

These guns were built back when quality mattered on lower price-point guns. This J.C. Higgins is a pre-1968 Gun Control Act firearm, so it has no serial number. It is a solid, well-made pump shotgun from about 1962.

This old girl and others from Bob Munden’s personal collection will be up for auction on Gunbroker under the seller’s name of Munden Enterprises shortly. Good luck bidding!

I just finished up a nice pair of C**t SAAs in 44-40 for a regular customer with our Munden’s Six-Gun Magic -- Option #1 plus honing and polishing of the cylinder chambers.

These C**ts had rough actions from the factory and shot way too far to the left when I was sighting them in, but all is now correct and after turning the barrels at the range in our barrel vice, these beauties shoot beautifully.

The accuracy of these two guns also improved because I use Rim Rock’s excellent cast bullets.

Just a note: I prefer to use a .428 size cast bullet in 44-40 C**ts. In my experience the accuracy is quite better than with the .427 size bullet. Rim Rock produces an excellent cast bullet and is my go-to standard for accuracy in all single-action revolvers.
