Here’s a pair of R***r, Birdshead Vaqueros in .45 C**t I recently completed OPTION #1 PACKAGE on. Plus, I honed and polished the cylinder chambers.

Surprisingly, I didn’t have to take down the front sight on these guns. Straight from the manufacturer, Vaqueros usually shoot very low.

Posing with one of my favorite ri**es at the 2026 Montana State Silhouette Match in Butte. It is a 1943 Re*****on 03-A3 with a Montana Vintage Arms 10x scope with Unertl mounts, a Criterion four-groove barrel and a lightened trigger, which I did myself. This is a very accurate r***e, more than capable of shooting sub MOA groups out to 500 meters if I do my part and hand load with the correct bullet weight, and hold steady.

As much as I like single actions and 1911s, I also like using this high power r***e, especially in steel silhouette matches. — Jeff Ault

If you send your single action in for option work, I strongly recommend our cylinder chamber polishing and honing as an upgrade. This service allows for a smoother, easier extraction of your spent shells.

A polished and honed cylinder is a nice enhancement to have at the unloading table. After all, nobody wants to see you struggling unloading your fired brass at a Cowboy Action match. — Jeff Ault

One step I do when tuning a 1911 is turning the mainspring cap in the lathe to remove burrs. This polishes and sizes up the top of the cap as it moves up and down in the mainspring housing. I also hone the inside of the mainspring tunnel. These two things enhance smoothness shot after shot.

This is not an an Option #2 race gun but a very nice .44 special I customized with our Six-Gun Magic coil main and handspring conversions. I also honed and polished the cylinder chambers.
These 5 1/2” .44 specials point nicely and have a slightly hefty feel to them, which I like.

I think I could have gotten a tighter group, but I seem to see the sights better on blued guns. The nickel front sight super shines in bright light. This C**t SAA delivers spot on accuracy. — Jeff Ault

When I'm cutting a forcing cone I just “kiss” it at an 11 degree pitch. That's all you need to send the bullet on it's path down the barrel and enhance accuracy. You're doing more harm than good if you really lay into the reamer and seriously open up the forcing cone, because a bullet and with a hot powder charge behind it could blow out around the cone and not use propellant efficiently. There’s no fixing an over-cut forcing cone. I cut it lightly. If there has been some erosion over time, I can always re-cut the cone to make it like new. You can’t do that if the cone has been heavily cut on. Remember, more is not necessarily better when it comes to customizing single actions. — Jeff Ault
