Splendid was the word of the weekend 👏🏼

Thank you Erica for another great weekend at Windfall! With 5 horses we finished the weekend with 4 Champions and 1 Reserve Champion.

🌟Lana joined the show team for her first away show with Ace. They were Reserve Champion in the Walk Trot Poles Equitation and rode to good ribbons in the Walk Trot Hunter!
🌟Lauryn rode the Saleh family’s Sonny to Champion in the Short Stirrup Hunter and Short Stirrup Equitation!
🌟Meghan and Beauty showed to top placings in the Walk Trot Equitation and Walk Trot Hunter.
🌟Shelby and Nico joined us for his first weekend off the farm. He was a star! Excited for these two to grow together.
🌟Cameron rode Hunter to a clean sweep of the Special Hunters for Champion and Veronica rode Hunter to Champion in the Low Adult Hunters.

Many thanks to the kids for their hard work, the horses for their kindness, the parents that make these weekends possible, and the team at home that keeps the farm running. Looking forward to doing it again soon!

Home safe and sound from a chilly horseshow weekend!

⭐️Hamilton and Megan conquered the ground poles again with our most consistent rides to date. They were stars all weekend and brought home good ribbons!
⭐️Fia and Emma came back to the ring in style, winning their hack and having good cross rails trips.
⭐️Sonny and Lauryn rode super in the Short Stirrup! They had a clean sweep in the Hunters for Champion and top ribbons in the Eq for Reserve. Sonny loves to show!
⭐️Brandt and Brooklyn were welcomed back in the 2’3” for their 2nd time and 2nd show ever. Good trips and great learnings this weekend. We are very proud!
⭐️Sophie and Grace rode in the ground poles and worked on consistent trips. She got good ribbons and won both of her hacks!
⭐️Hunter and Veronica had a clean sweep of their classes for Champion.

Thank you so much Erica at Windfall for a well run show and welcoming facility! We are so blessed to have Windfall so close to home. Looking forward to coming back in June!

Wrapped up our spring debut last weekend at Windfall. Had a hugely successful weekend with some new pairings.
⭐️ Brooklyn and Brandt made their debut and absolutely crushed it, even moving into a new division for Brooklyn on Sunday.
⭐️ Meghan and Hamilton rode to great ribbons in the ground poles, narrowly missing reserve in the biggest divisions Meghan has ever competed in.
⭐️ Emma and Fia hacked around and got Fia stretching after a winter break. It was a great spring reset and Emma was a huge help all weekend.
⭐️ Grace and Sophie debuted in the ground poles and rode to Reserve Champion Saturday and Champion Sunday with a clean sweep of every class.
⭐️ Veronica and Hunter knocked off the winter dust and rode to class wins.
Many thanks to Erica for hosting such a welcoming event at a great venue. Thank you to our sponsors and partners for the start of another great show season!

Walk into any barn, and you’ll notice it right away: some riders seem to be naturals. They swing into the saddle with balance and ease, they have soft hands, and they “just get it.” Talent like that can be dazzling, and it often garners quick praise and early success. But at Farm, Inc. Carleton and Traci Brooks remind their students that talent alone won’t sustain a rider through the long journey of horsemanship. What really matters is work ethic.

Talent may open doors, but it’s work ethic that keeps them open. Natural feel helps a rider in the short term, but the sport of hunters and jumpers demands consistency over years, not just flashes of brilliance. Horses change, courses grow in complexity, and challenges evolve. Riders who rely only on talent often struggle when the sport asks more of them than instinct alone can provide.

Work ethic, on the other hand, builds resilience. A rider who is willing to show up early, put in extra effort, and learn from every experience has a toolkit that talent can’t replace. Over time, that steady progress accumulates into mastery.

When it is dress up in a “sports” theme for your grade today:

“Lauryn (obviously) picked the only sport she loves…even emailed her teacher to get clearance to bring in “Popcorn,” her hobby horse pony, since Gracie couldn’t go to school with her!”

We love to see how the kiddos share their love for the sport ☺️🦄

In a sport that rewards ambition, speed, and visible progress, “going slow” can feel counterintuitive. But for Jimmy and Danielle Torano, patience isn’t hesitation. It’s a strategy.

Across decades at the top of the sport, the Toranos have learned that whether you’re developing a young horse or a promising rider, there is one mistake you almost never make: taking your time. “You will never make a mistake going too slow,” Jimmy said. “You’ll never make a mistake going too slow with a rider. And you’ll never make a mistake going too slow with a horse.”

When new horses enter the Toranos’ program, they don’t debut at the highest level they’re capable of jumping. Even when a horse is age-appropriate for young horse classes or technically ready for a bigger division, they start lower.

“We probably start them a division or two below where they should be,” Jimmy explained. That decision is about building confidence, both for the horse and the rider. Letting a horse settle, understand their job, and feel successful creates a foundation that holds when the questions get harder.

Especially when young riders are developing horses, the Toranos see patience as protection. “We want to make sure everything goes right—or as right as it can go,” Jimmy said.

One audience member at the live podcast summed it up simply: success breeds success. Jimmy agreed.

“The minute you overface a horse is when you get into trouble,” he said.

The same principle applies to riders. Moving someone forward before they’re truly ready—physically or mentally—can undermine confidence far faster than it builds experience. Going slower allows skills, confidence, and decision-making to develop together.

For the Toranos, patience is intentional. It’s paying attention to how a horse responds. It’s listening to what a rider needs on a given day. And it’s resisting the urge to rush simply because the calendar suggests it’s time.

Before the snow came in we had a beautiful Saturday to host our second horseshow. The horses and riders most definitely rose to the challenge. We are so proud!

The Ranch of Opportunity joined us for a little friendly competition. It was great to meet the riders and the horses. Congratulations to all on a day of great riding and ribbons!

We want to extend our appreciation to our judge Carole for supporting another generation of riders and to our horse holders and parents that went above and beyond cleaning and preparing the facility, setting jumps, tacking and holding horses throughout the show, and cleaning up afterwards. We wouldn’t be able to pull off an event like this without your contributions!! Thank you all.

Looking forward to the next show. We have many requests to do it again in the spring… ☺️
