No matter how much experience you have, there is always more to learn. This weekend, Blue Ridge Marksmanship is hosting Frank Proctor’s Pistol Hard Skills course at our facility in Burnsville, and I’ve had the opportunity to spend the weekend training alongside a fantastic group of students. A huge thank you to Frank Proctor for a phenomenal first day of instruction. The day you stop learning is the day you stop growing.

If you’ve trained with us before, chances are you’ve heard us talk about Karl. Karl is that battle buddy who might show up late to the fight or just isn’t quite on the same page as everyone else. Sometimes Karl is so focused on the situation in front of him that he doesn’t realize you’re moving. You’ll hear your instructor call out “check for Karl” as a reminder to clear to the rear before changing positions. Whether you’re going from prone to kneeling, kneeling to standing, or moving to a new position of cover, always check for your battle buddy Karl and make sure you’re clear to move.

Thank you to another fantastic group of shooters who showed up ready to train and put in the work at our Beginner Pistol course yesterday.

Several students fired a handgun for the very first time during this class. As you can see, this course was completely sold out and will only be offered one more time this year, in September. Message us ASAP to reserve your spot.

If at any point you feel unsafe at our facility, please inform an instructor immediately so we can address it. Safety issues are rare because our staff closely supervise students and maintain a safe training environment.

We’ve all been there at some point. A semi-automatic firearm malfunctions, something goes wrong, and now you’re stuck. As we move through courses, stoppages happen for all kinds of reasons, and that’s where we work through the problem with you and help build the skills needed to clear malfunctions under pressure. In some of our injured shooter courses, we even cover off-hand and diminished capacity manipulations.
