Texas Amateur Athletic Federation Announces Appointment of New Executive Director
Executive Board Approves Hire of Lawrence “LR” Heffernan
Start Date: January 12, 2026
The Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (TAAF) Executive Board has approved the appointment of Lawrence “LR” Heffernan as the next Executive Director of TAAF. Heffernan will officially begin on January 12, 2026 and will work alongside current Executive Director Mark Lord, who will remain with the organization through the end of 2026 to ensure a smooth and effective transition.
TAAF President Lacey Dingman shared her support for the board’s selection.
“LR has been part of the TAAF family for many years, serving as a state commissioner, committee chair, and past president. He understands the organization from the inside out and has firsthand experience with the work our member cities do each day,” Dingman said. “His leadership style, municipal background, and long-standing commitment to amateur athletics in Texas make him the right choice to guide TAAF forward.”
Heffernan expressed his appreciation for the opportunity.
“I am honored to serve as TAAF’s next Executive Director,” Heffernan said. “This organization has played a meaningful role in my professional life for decades. I look forward to partnering with our board, staff, and member cities to continue supporting amateur sports across the state and strengthening the programs that make TAAF so impactful.”
The announcement also recognizes Mark Lord, who has served TAAF with dedication and professionalism throughout his tenure as Executive Director. While transitioning toward retirement, Lord will remain fully engaged through 2026 to support leadership handoff, continuity of operations, and ongoing major TAAF initiatives.
“Mark has given so much to this organization, and his steady leadership has shaped TAAF for the better,” Dingman added. “We are grateful he will stay through the transition year, and we deeply appreciate the legacy he leaves behind.”
Additional information regarding transition planning and upcoming opportunities for members to meet LR Heffernan will be shared as details are finalized.
