Senior spotlight time! Last, but certainly not least, we’re celebrating Kirk Smith. It’s hard to believe this is our final senior shoutout, and even harder to put into words how much Kirk has grown as both a rower and a person during his time with VTR. Kirk graduated with an Economics major and joined Vermont Rowing during his first year at UVM and quickly found a community that kept him coming back. Some of his favorite memories include racing at ACRAs freshman year and the support he felt from older teammates from day one.
Through rowing, Kirk learned how to connect with and listen to people from all different backgrounds and perspectives. 🚣‍♀️

Thank you, Kirk, for everything you’ve brought to Vermont Rowing. We can’t wait to see what’s next for you! 💚💛

⭐️ Some kind words from the team:

Kirk is difficult to describe with writing. He exudes earnest strength and deep determination in all of his endeavors. Kirk is consistent, and always gives 110%. You’re fortunate if you’ve experienced Kirk first hand.

Kirk has been one of the most dedicated rowers on our team and his work ethic and passion really lifts up the people around him. I’ve always appreciated how welcoming he was when I joined the team whether it was erging next to me and giving me tips or sending me instagram reels he is a great guy and a great teammate.

Kirk has grown so much since I met him. The first interaction i had with him he was frustrated.  he said to me “I don’t understand this erging I can’t get the technique.” Even though he felt defeated, he kept trying. Kirk is the hardest worker I know. He never gives up and gives it 110% even when he doesn’t beleive in himself. I’ve seen him grow into one of the most respectable people I know over his time here.

We are so proud of you Kirk! 🥹

Senior spotlight time! Next up, we’re celebrating Henley Lynch and all the dedication, memories, and impact they’ve brought to VTR! 💚

Henley Lynch majored in Economics and Global Studies. Although they had one season of rowing experience back in 8th grade, they essentially started from scratch when they joined Vermont Rowing as a freshman. Henley competed with VTR for two and a half years before studying abroad and later stepping back from competing during senior year. They originally joined because both of their parents rowed, and even their name is a rowing reference, but they stayed because they completely fell in love with the sport. Some of their most memorable moments include earning bronze at Novice Head of the Snake and competing at ACRA 2024, when their entire boat somehow ended up getting sick. Through their time on VTR, they found not only a passion for rowing but also countless experiences and memories that made the team such an important part of their college journey. We can’t wait to watch you kill it in Wisconsin Henley! ⭐️

Some kind words from the team:

This shoutout is for Henley! I love all our seniors but I think she is the most deserving of a shoutout. I first met Henley when she came to help at one novice water practice in the fall. I want to shout out Henley because she has been incredibly nice to me and understanding in a unique way. Several times, especially during the winter on the ergs, she has seen me looking really tired, struggling, or otherwise unhappy during a workout, asked me what was going on, and listened to whatever was on my mind (and helped me mentally recover/get back on track) she just talks to me in such a kind and positive way and I don’t really know how to describe it but it makes me feel good whenever I don’t feel good. Thanks henley!

I really enjoy spending time with you! You have so many interesting stories to tell!

henley is such a kind hearted person that you can tell really cares about rowing. No matter what was going on in their personal life Henley made her best effort to be there for Vermont Rowing and help the team in any way they could!

We are going to miss you so much Henley! We love you! 💛💚

Our next senior shoutout goes to our one and only Pascal Holler. Pascal majored in French, Psychology, and Business, a triple threat to say the very least! He joined Vermont Rowing, hoping to get jacked before realizing rowing was definitely more of a cardio sport. Coming into VTR with no previous rowing experience, he quickly became deeply involved with the team and went on to serve as both Recruitment and Retention Coordinator and Men’s Team President. His favorite part of being on the team has been watching his teammates grow not only as rowers, but as people, especially during his time leading the men’s squad. Over the past year, he has learned a tremendous amount about leadership and is incredibly proud of what the men’s team has become. He is grateful for everything VTR gave him, from the friends and mentors to unforgettable memories! Pascal hopes that one day he can give back everything the team gave to him. We are so proud of you Pascal!!

Some kind words from the team:

You always have such positive energy and I appreciate everything you do! (even if you beat me at fantasy basketball)!!!

one of the first times i spoke to him was on a run during my novice season where he made the group of us run to his apartment so get could get his sneakers. very bizarre and he proceeded to call me “rachel” for the entire first semester i knew him. even still i don’t think ive met many people in my life with the same penchant for making you feel like the most important person in the room when you’re speaking to them. he’s seriously a once in a lifetime kind of person.

Pascal has always been someone to look up to, someone you can trust, and someone who truly does it all. He has a way of inspiring everyone around him to become the best version of themselves, and his impact on this team is impossible to replace. Thank you for everything you’ve given to this team, your leadership, support, and the countless memories along the way. You’ll always be a huge part of VTR!

Thank you for everything, Pascal! We love you! 💛💚
