When we hear “pool,” it’s easy to picture the pool itself. But a public aquatic facility involves much more than the water and pool basin.

Construction can include pool and filtration systems, plumbing and mechanical infrastructure, bathhouse and restroom facilities, accessibility features, site improvements, utilities, engineering, permitting and more.

Public aquatic facilities also have specific health, safety and accessibility requirements to consider.

And, like other construction projects, costs are affected by current labor and material prices.

We’re sharing this information to help give our community a better understanding of what goes into planning and building a public aquatic facility. There’s a lot more to it than meets the eye! 👀💦

Have a question about the pool project? We’d be happy to help answer it. Feel free to reach out to us directly with any questions you may have.

🌱 What’s going on at Mosquito Park?

Don’t worry, the crabapples are staying! We’re simply giving the planting beds underneath them a refresh.

The current landscaping has been here for more than 10 years, and our Parks team has designed a new look featuring colorful plants, interesting textures, and a beautiful sea of Switchgrass below the overlook.

Over the next few weeks, you may notice plants being moved to our nursery at Crapo Park to be reused in future projects.

Things may look a little different for a while, but beautiful things are on the way! 🌿

🏗️ A little Perkins Park progress!

The new shelter house by the pickleball courts is starting to take shape, and now it has the start of a roof! 👀

This project is adding a new space for the community to gather, relax and enjoy Perkins Park. We know changes in our parks can bring different perspectives, and we appreciate everyone who cares about how our parks grow and serve the community.

Still a little work to go, but it’s coming together!
