If you know me at all, then you know Bunz. Bunz is my husband, best friend, therapist, the original Punk Pony, and put me on the map as a professional. He’s the horse I put everybody on if they’ve never ridden before and even if you had, he’s still the horse you wanted to ride! A couple of years ago he was diagnosed with cancer in his eye. It was unclear how it would affect him long-term, but his eye has been slowly dying over the last year and he has been losing weight left and right, despite all of my best efforts. Although he seems happy right now, eating and walking around, pooping, being with Cupid and the minis, and neighing to me every single day that I see him, I’ve made the difficult decision that in the next few weeks it’s time for him to cross the rainbow bridge and live the next phase of his life: getting back to being fat and happy and watching over us. I’m not ready AT all, and I don’t want to wait to talk about him with everyone after he has passed because it will level me. I’m in such a unique position right now because he’s still here and I have the opportunity to honor him in a special and unique way. This horse has been such a force, he has touched so many people‘s hearts and made them amazing riders, he makes people that are afraid of horses feel safe, and I think that we all owe it to him to tell him the stories that we have about him while he’s still alive so he can go out knowing how loved and special he really is.
Over the next two weeks, I would love to gather any stories and photos that you all have so I can sit down with him every day and tell him a new story, and make a special book that I will be able to cherish forever. I want to thank everybody for being the best part of this horse‘s life, for bringing him treats, and making sure there are NO plastic bags within 100 feet of him! I think that all of the love that he has seen over his whole life, 26 years, is the reason that he has held on so long! More to come including a massive thank you message to the Issac family for literally gifting me this unicorn.
