Fear forcibly draws our Attention, making us weak and smaller. Trust means we intentionally turn our Attention in a direction of our choosing—remaining extroverted and strong. Controlling ourselves is the greatest ability we’ve been given. What we choose to put our Attention on shapes Reality.

Honor.

During a cross-country race, Kenyan athlete Abel Mutai slowed to a jog a few strides before the tape, convinced he had already finished. Close behind, Spanish runner Iván Fernández realized what was happening. He called out and waved, but Mutai didn’t understand.

Instead of sprinting past, Fernández pulled alongside and gestured Mutai forward, guiding him to the real finish so the Kenyan could rightfully claim his win. Afterward, reporters asked Fernández why he did it.

“I dream of a world where honesty and kindness come first,” he said.

“But you could have won,” they pressed.

“He was already in front,” Fernández replied. “What honor is there in taking a victory that isn’t truly mine? How could I face my mother with that medal?”

Stories like this remind us that integrity, dignity, and respect are values worth protecting and passing on. Let’s make sure they endure.
