Y’all get with WW Fields!

We share this photo every year as a reminder to look around and be cautious when picking up your downed birds! A lot of hunters and our members have reported seeing this in the field. We share the fields with several venomous snakes, unfortunately, along with rattlesnakes. Yikes!

Well after nearly a decade of releasing Eurasian Collared doves all over Texas for our Banded Bird Challenge, a neat thing happened last weekend for some of the TDHA team in Abilene. For the first time, one of the hunters in our group got a banded bird! A youth hunter at that, to make it even more exciting. Rumor has it he’s already wearing the orange band on his necklace and telling all the kids in 6th grade about it. 😎

So far this season, we’ve had 50 bands called in.

We had a great trip for our 3rd annual friends and family hunt with Western Wing Outfitters out of Abilene. If you’re looking for a relaxed atmosphere with down-to-earth guides and excellent hospitality, they’re your folks!

Birds have been good! There have been a few pockets of hit or miss or waiting on new birds, but overall, it’s been a GREAT season for the majority of the state! Pictures above were sent in from two Texas outfitters — Jo Kreed Outdoors around the Andrews/West Texas region, and Landings Ranch in Orange Grove. Both are still taking hunters out to the field and getting limits. Check both their ads out in the 2026 issues of Texas Dove Hunters Magazine if you’d like to book a hunt during the second season.

Good luck to the hunters who are trading out their sh****ns for a bow or r***e for the start of archery and MLDP season for deer.

We’ll still be chasing doves. 🤠
