Gloria Deo Academy traveled to Zephyr for their TAIAO State Semifinal game on Saturday and earned their third consecutive state championship berth! After jumping out to a fast start and a 16-0 lead, Westlake Academy rallied back with two scores just before halftime to make the score 16-14 at the break. The Lions took over in the 3rd quarter, however, scoring 32 unanswered points! They carried the momentum into the 4th, putting two more scores into the end zone to end the game with a final score of 61-14. The defense was dominant, allowing only 90 total yards and forcing three turnovers. GDA also excelled in the kicking game, making all of their extra points and blocking a Westlake attempt.

Tomorrow, the team will travel to Bryan for the TAIAO Division 1 State Championship game where they will take on the BVCHEA Mustangs at 5 p.m. in their final contest of 2024. Go Lions, Take State!

After a long 21 day break and two bye weeks, GDA football returned to action this past Saturday afternoon in a TAIAO 2nd round playoff matchup with St. Stephens Episcopal, a rematch from their last game one month prior. The Lions didn't show any signs of rust and were ready to play as they took down the Spartans 61-12. The ground game was key as GDA rushed for 335 yards on 20 carries and also held the St. Stephens pass game in check, recording two interceptions. With the win the Lions advance to the state semifinals for the 3rd consecutive season and will take on Westlake Academy from the DFW area this Saturday at 2om at the Zephyr Bulldogs Stadium with a trip to state on the line!

Well, that’s a wrap! What a season we have had! The XC Lions finished the season at State with their strongest performance yet. Middle school dominated, bringing home first place for both Girls and Boys! The varsity boys had a very close race for the finish, capturing 2nd and only five points behind first. The varsity girls finished with two top 10 finishers. Way to go lions on an amazing season!

The Lady Lions Varsity Volleyball Team spike the season with a win over East Texas, winning the consolation bracket and taking 5th place in the state volleyball tournament in Bryan, TX last weekend. Lions advanced to the state tournament for the first time by earning 3rd place in the Southern TAIAO regionals held in San Antonio. First year Head Coach Raelynn McNeil lead the GDA Lady Lions to an overall record of 25-11-3. Beyond her excellent coaching and knowledge of the game of volleyball, she ministered to the Lady Lions throughout the season sharing her love of Jesus and how to live out what you believe. We are grateful for her knowledge, leadership and strong Christian character that she displayed throughout the season.

Junior Varsity A team led by Coach Alan Pursell took 3rd overall in the Southern TAIAO regionals and finished the season with a record of 10-5. Junior Varsity B team led by Coach Erica Brandau, gained experience and learned valuable skills to build a firm foundation for future competition, ending the season with a win over Texas Serve. A total of 26 girls participated in the 2024 high school volleyball program.

Notable achievements of the season include Sunnybrook Invitational all-tournament awards for Savannah Osuna, Emily Gorman, and Hannah Young. In the TAIAO Regional Tournament, seniors Lilly Milazzo and McKenna Spondike earned all-tournament honors. Junior Savannah Osuna earned all-tournament honors at the state tournament in Bryan TX. Seniors McKenna Spondike and Emily Gorman earned all-state honors and finished their high school volleyball careers by playing in the state all-star match at the Legend Center in Bryan, TX.

We are extremely thankful for GDA athletic families and community for their time, efforts, and travel in supporting the volleyball program. Special thanks to Dawn Pursell who assisted all 3 teams with her knowledge and love for the game, Lori Osuna for keeping everything in order, and Justine Smith for all the administrative support.

GDA enjoyed a home game this Friday and the Lions put on a show for all the fans with a big 54-6 district win over St. Stephen's Episcopal of Austin. Gloria Deo did most of its damage through the air, with over 240 passing yards and 6 passing touchdowns in the victory. Our 10 awesome seniors were also honored at halftime for all their contributions over the past four years!

Prior to the varsity game, the JV squad wrapped up their 2024 season with a thrilling game of their own against St. Stephen's. GDA fell just short, 27-24 in a back and forth contest but finished the season with a 4-2-1 mark, tying the school record for JV wins in a season. Congratulations Lions on a great fall!

What an amazing meet this weekend! Our high school and middle school runners have worked so hard this season, and we are so proud of them. Their relentless effort has paid off in their time improvements and multiple top team awards at both 4A public school and private school meets this season. Last Tuesday our runners competed in a mile race on the track in downtown San Antonio and 4 of our Varsity boys set new personal records, all running a mile under 4:50. This weekend they won top team for varsity Boys, middle school girls and middle school boys. 2 of our 3 varsity girls made the podium with 3rd and 9th place. The Podium was a sea of Red! As coaches, we love to be part of this community of Christ focused students and athletes. Thank you for all families that are coming out and supporting us. Their state meet will be this coming weekend in Lockhart. Go Lions!!!

Celebrating our fall athletes at pep rallies is more than just fun; it's a reflection of the joy and unity that God desires for His people. These gatherings allow us to come together as a community, lifting each other up in encouragement, much like how the Bible calls us to "spur one another on toward love and good deeds" (Hebrews 10:24). The excitement and energy in the air as we cheer for our teams brings everyone together, creating memories that last. From the loud cheers to the playful competitions, it's a time where we come together to support our athletes and share in their successes. The camaraderie and support we show for our athletes mirrors the body of Christ, where each person plays a unique role, contributing to the whole (1 Corinthians 12:12-27). These moments of joy, laughter, and shared enthusiasm strengthen the bonds of fellowship, reminding us that, in Christ, we are called to rejoice together and build each other up in love (1 Thessalonians 5:11). Through school pride and a spirit of encouragement, we are reminded that we are all part of something bigger.

Regular season comes to a close and Gloria Deo Lady Lions bring their high flying volleyball action to the regional tournament this weekend in San Antonio. We appreciate your support as the girls try to earn a spot in the state tournament. Gooooo Lions!!!!!

The Lions rebounded well this past week traveling to Marble Falls and bringing home a big win over Faith Academy. Much different from last year's game against the Flames which was more of a defensive battle, both offenses were explosive on Friday night leading to 130 total points and an 80-50 GDA win. Gloria Deo set a new school record for points scored in a game and racked up over 400 yards of offense for the 2nd time this season. They will look to keep up their winning ways today when they travel to San Marcos to take on the Hill Country Christian Rams at 7:30 p.m.

The JV Lions also notched a big win on Wednesday afternoon as they defeated cross town rival Living Rock Academy 44-0. This was the first victory over a varsity team for the JV Lions this season and a huge accomplishment.
