What an awesome night of fun with Parents On The Mat Night!

A experience not only for the kids but parents as well. They got to see first hand what it feels like to go through the same warmups, drills, and how it feels to put your skills to the test in front of the whole class during superfights.

We are very thankful for all the parents who stepped onto the mats. It was more than we expected, and got everyone so excited for the next one.

When we decided to open Mata, we had a vision to create a culture that was unmatched. A place spreading the power and benefits of jiu-jitsu for everyone. This place has become more then just a gym, more then a community, but a family.

Together..WE ARE MATA. 🐺

✨COACH APPRECIATION POST✨

The General. The Boss. Coach Halph.

The opening and start of Mata wouldn’t have been possible without this man. He does so much behind the scenes that people don’t see. At the same time, he works full time and runs his own business. Still showing up daily to help with the day to day classes and teach.

Ralph’s passion for jiu-jitsu runs deep. He loves to help new people on the mats, loves to focus on growth and development of kids and teens, and all around just loves everything about jiu-jitsu and what it gives us. He brings so much wisdom to our mats. Ralph brings a different flavor and style to teaching as well what people call “The Old Man’s Game”. Specializing in strong fundamentals, pressure, and slowing people down. With a twist of some crazy wacky fun lapel stuff.

We can’t say enough good things about Coach Ralph. He deserves all the love and appreciation with the time and passion he puts into our gym, people, kids, and the programs.

Old man, we all got so much love for you. Never stop being a jokester. Never stop getting younger. Never stop being you.

Winter season is the time where most people start to disappear and become inconsistent. It’s cold, gets dark earlier, the holidays make us slow down a bit and get lazy. Don’t let that be you.

Stay consistent. 2-3 days is fine to get by. Making an open mat instead of a regular training session works great as well. Push yourself to stay committed to the craft. Don’t lose your timing, don’t lose your shape, don’t fall off. Stay training.

Took a little squad yesterday to Grappling Industries Las Vegas. A smaller turnout of a tournament due to it being a day after Halloween, but perfect for our first time competitors. Everyone got tons of matches.

You win or you learn. Every single person fought hard! Lots of tough matches and just a taste of what competing in jiujitsu is. So proud of our kids. Never cried, never complained, never gave up. Continuing to fight after losing, talking about what they could be doing better in between matches, listening to the coaching from coaches. Knowing what needs to be worked on and us as coaches seeing where we need to develop more. That’s what it’s all about.

By surprise, we took 3rd for Overall Team Adults! A nice piece of hardware to bring back for the guys to see that continuing to battle yesterday match after match meant something. A reminder for us to keep pushing and working hard no matter what. The grind never stops.
