As always, Cardinal FastPitch was able to dodge some serious rain and got the game in vs the 14u Southtowns Slammers. Unfortunately, the Slammers were too much for the Cardinals as they prevailed 16-5, dropping the teams overall record to 11-5-1.
The Slammers got on the board in the first off starter Tessa Dominesey but Leah Johnson singled and quickly tied things up 1-1 as Tessa drove her in with a single of her own. In the second, control was the problem as five walks were issued leading to five runs and a 6-1 Slammer lead. Amileah Muhisin and Natalie Laskowski (single) both reached base but were left stranded leaving the score 6-1 after two innings. In the third, Grace Cornell entered the circle as did some downpouring rain which always seems to come at the worst times 😂 Despite the rain and a short stoppage, the Slammer bats kept rolling extending its lead to 11-1 after three offensive innings. Three more runs scored in the fourth, before the Cardinal bats woke up, scoring four of their own to cut into the slammer lead 14-5. Amileah delivered a single as did Grace (RBI), Leah (RBI) and Mya. Scoring in the inning was Amileah, Natalie, Arabella Hoppe and Grace Cornell.
Mya entered the circle in the fifth inning and withe help of her defense, posted a scoreless inning. Two plays by Grace at shortstop and a great catch in right field by Dylan Baldwin kept the Slammers off the scoreboard for the first time. Mckenzie Bauder led off the home half of the fourth with a single followed by a single from Hayley Richards, but both were left stranded (making that seven for the game 😡). The skies cleared for the ending but only the Slammers enjoyed it as they posted two more runs off reliever Mya Raley, but two great catches in center field by Tessa Dominesey stopped the bleeding as ultimately the game ended due to a less than thrilling home half, leaving the Cardinals in the loss column 16-5.
Despite the loss, this 14u team (sponsored by Edelweiss Farms) battled a very good and respectful team in preparation for its host tournament this weekend. Thank you to the Slammers for making the trip and we will work harder at practice to give you guys a better game when we travel to your home field in July. Keep working girls!!!

Despite some weather, schedule changes and rule changes, our 16u Cardinal FastPitch team (sponsored by Coops Red Caboose and Chaffee Chick Design) managed to reach the semi-finals of the Gold Bracket by going 3-2 for the Niagara tournament and only losing to the Hamburg Dawgs A squad twice. As mentioned earlier the tournament began with a 14-0 win over the Cayuga Cascades on Friday night followed by a split of two Hamburg games on Saturday for a 2-1 pool play record and a 6 seed in the GOLD bracket.
First it was the Hamburg Dawgs (Matychak) team, where the team collected eight hits and cashed in on almost every opportunity winning 8-7 in a nail biter. Leah Johnson led the way with two hits, two RBI and a run scored, while Grace Cornell, Hannah Bauder, Peyton Comstock, Mya Raley, KS and Tessa Dominesey all added singles and a run scored, Cornell scored twice. Kailyn Riggerman scored a run and Mackenzie Leigh Johnson drove in one as every player was needed to eeek out the win. Grace Cornell and Tessa Dominesey combined for 4 k's in the circle, but it was the defense that shined to preserve the win especially in the final inning when a set play was called and Peyton threw to MJ at second base, who fired it back to Peyton to get the potentially game tying runner out at the plate. Previous to that, we had multiple plays made by KS, Grace and Mya in the infield and Amileah, MJ and Leah in the outfield.
In the second game of the night, the Cardinals had to play another Hamburg Dawgs team (poor scheduling) in the Davis A team and came up short 6-1 despite a great effort from Grace Cornell in relief of Tessa in the circle, not of which recorded a strikeout. This time it was Kailyn, Leah and KS providing great defense in the outfield to keep the game within reach and Tessa and Hannah on the infield but it wasn't enough to hold the high powered offense of the Dawgs. Offensively, only Tessa and Leah could generate hits and only Leah could cross the plate off a beautiful bunt by Hannah Bauder for an early 1-0 lead. Grace, Peyton and Amileah also reached base via walks but were unable to score.
All of this equalled another game vs the Hamburg Dawgs but this time vs the McLimans team early Sunday morning in the first GOLD bracket game. The Cardinals wasted no time in jumping out on the #3 seed 7-0 as Grace, Leah, Hannah, Mya, KS, Mackenzie-Leigh and Kailyn all scored. Hamburg clawed back to 7-5 after three complete innings, but starter Tessa Dominesey recorded her 8th strikeout to end further damage. In the fourth, Leah, Mya, KS and Peyton all scored to expand the lead to 11-5. In the inning the bats really came alive as Grace, Leah, Mya, KS, Peyton and MJ all singled in the inning while Hannah and Kailyn collected RBI's. The Dawgs again answered with two runs off reliever Grace Cornell to cut the lead to 11-7, but again KS made a great catch at second base and Grace recorded two strikeouts to shut things down on the Dawgs.
In the fifth inning, the lead was extended further as Leah, KS, Peyton and MJ all scored to go up 15-7. Hannah, Peyton, MJ and Amileah all collected RBI's in the inning and with 8-run rule back in effect for Sunday all we had to do was get three outs to advance to the semifinals and Mya Raley made sure that happened as she made two spectacular plays at third base and Tessa made a great catch in center field to end the game.
The win created a return match up against none other than the Hamburg Dawgs A team "Davis". This has never happened where the Cardinals played four games (3 Hamburg teams) from one organization in the same tournament before and in order to play someone different they would have to beat the team that beat them Saturday night. Early on things did not look good as four errors in the first inning led to an early 5-0 deficit. The Dawgs increased the lead to 7-0 after two innings despite some great defense by Tessa in the circle and Grace Cornell and Peyton Comstock at shortstop and second base respectively. The Cardinals got on the board in third as Tessa and Amileah reached base via walks and we're driven in by Leah Johnsons single to center field.
The score remained that way as Tessa settled in until the fourth when the Dawgs made it 9-2 as reliever Grace Cornell entered the circle to shut things down. In fifth is where Amileah (single), Grace, Leah, Hannah and Mya all came around the score, making the score 9-7. Mya had the big hit with a 2-run double as well as Hannah's rbi single. KS and Peyton recorded RBIs in the inning as time was now becoming a factor. Having said that, Grace went back out and again Mya made a great play at third base and Tessa had two at shortstop as the Cardinals had one last chance to upset the #1 seed. Tessa led the inning off with a double, Amileah walked and Grace grounded out scoring Tessa as the score was now 9-8 but that's how things ended as the Dawgs were victorious. It marked the second loss to Davis who eventually won the tournament, but boy did our girls battle. Not just today, but throughout and always displaying great sportsmanship no matter what, never screaming in between pitches, never rattling the fences and always high fiving after both the wins and the losses. All of that while leaving it all on the field is what makes coaching this young bunch so much fun. Great tournament ladies, be proud of this weekends accomplishments. Go-FastPitch-Go!!

After splitting the two games yesterday with two different Hamburg Dawgs teams (W 8-7) & (L 1-9) our 16u Cardinal FastPitch team finished 2-1 in pool play and a #6 seed in the GOLD bracket. This sets up a matchup vs the 3rd different Hamburg today (9am) in Wilson, NY. Good luck ladies, Go-FastPitch-Go!!

Last night in Wilson our 16u Lady Cardinals (sponsored by Coops Red Caboose and Chaffee Chick Design) got the Niagara Riptide tournament started with a 14-0 victory over the Cayuga Cascades. After a scoreless first inning, the bats got rolling for the Cardinals as Hannah Bauder led off with a single followed by Mya Raley, Mackenzie Leigh Johnson (RBI), Grace Cornell and Leah Johnson (2-run single). KS also reached via a fielder choice and all scored as the score was 5-0 after the second inning. In the third, it was again Hannah reaching on an error and scoring on KS's RBI triple. KS scored on a sacrifice RBI fly out by Tessa Dominesey to make the score 7-0.
Grace Cornell kept the Cascade offense in check over three innings allowing just three hits while recording four strikeouts in the circle. In the fourth things blew up for the Cardinals as they scored seven runs to take a commanding 14-0 lead. Kailyn Riggerman led things off with a walk and scoring while Grace delivered a double, leading to Leah, Peyton Comstock, Hannah, Mya and KS all reaching base and scoring. Our girls showed incredible sportsmanship while putting down some beautiful bunts in the inning, but the Cascade defense was able to shut things down as Tessa entered the circle. She faced four batters and struck out three as time expired in an opening game 14-0 win. The girls were strong throughout and will need to remain so later today as they take on two Hamburg Dawg teams beginning at 4 & 5:45pm. Great job and good luck today ladies!!

Cardinal FastPitch and it's 16u/18u team traveled to take on the Hamburg Dawgs 18u and despite falling behind 7-0 after two innings then exploded for a 5-run third as Grace Cornell, Leah Johnson, Hannah Bauder (RBI )and Savannah Beaudette (RBI) all singled before Peyton Comstock hammered a 3-run homerun to right center field making the score 7-5. Hamburg answered with a run to make it 8-5 off starter Savannah Beaudette and stayed that way until the fifth where Savannah scored off a Kelcie Songster RBI single, making the score 8-6, but again the Dawgs answered with a run of their own making the score 9-6.
The score didn't change until the final frame when Tessa Dominesey and Mackenzie Leigh both singled to lead things off and after a Cornell groundout moved the runners over, Leah Johnson collected a sacrifice fly rbi making the score 9-7. With MJ on third and Savannah drawing a walk, the cardinals had a chance to tie with a base hit but the rally was stopped with a ground ball out to end the game 9-7 in favor of the Dawgs.
Savannah Beaudette pitched a complete game (2-k's) but was helped immensely by her defense who made play after play keeping the game close. Multiple plays by Grace Cornell and Peyton Comstock at the shortstop position as well as Leah Johnson and Tessa Dominesey at second base. Hannah Bauder did great at first base as was Mackenzie Leigh behind the plate and Kelcie Songster & Mya Raley in various positions. No one likes to lose, but what a competitive and well played game by both teams as the Cardinals now prepare for this weekends Niagara 16u tournament, beginning with a matchup vs the Cayuga Cascades on Friday (6:30pm) in Wilson. Great job and good luck this weekend ladies!!

Earlier today the 14u Cardinal FastPitch team (sponsored by Edelweiss Farms) built a lead, lost the lead and took the lead in the seventh and won 9-6 against a very good Lakeshore Storm team. Grace Cornell and Mya Raley both scored in the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead. Mya and Tessa Dominesey both collected hits in the inning but unfortunately Tessa was left stranded as every run would be important in this one. The Storm answered with a run in the first off starter Grace Cornell to cut the lead to 2-1, but two strikeouts in the inning and pop fly out by Leah Johnson ended any further damage. In the second inning Kailyn Riggerman had a solid single to center field and after a couple throwing errors attempted to score but was thrown out at home on a questionable call at the plate, keeping the score 2-1. Unfortunately , the play at the plate took Kailyn out of the game for the rest of the way. In the third inning both Grace and Mya scored again to extend the lead to 4-1. As Grace, Leah and Tessa all delivered base hits, but Tessa's was the big one being a double.
Over the next couple of innings Grace delivered a double and Natalie Laskowski reached base twice, but neither could come around to score until Grace walked in the 6th and scored making the score 5-1. Until the bottom of the sixth Grace and Tessa were cruising in the circle, but a pair of errors, a HBP and a couple hits led to the Storms huge 5-run inning and a 6-5 lead. In the seventh, the bottom of the Cardinal order was challenged to make something happen and they came through, starting with Tessa Dominesey who singled and scored while Natalie and Arabella Hoppe bothe reached via walks and scored off the red hot bat of Grave Cornell, making the score 8-6. Leah and Mya reached base and Grave scored on a wild pitch for a 9-6 lead and were left stranded. Tessa entered the circle and went right back to work with a strikeout, a put out of her own and a grounder to Leah at second base for a 9-6 victory.
It wasn't pretty at times as this young 14u team gutted out another win, but better yet fought through some adversity that will be beneficial later this summer once tournaments begin. The teams next game in Next Tuesday vs the South towns Slammers 6:15pm at Sullivan Park as they prepare for their Cardinal Extravaganza Tournament. Good job ladies and Go-FastPitch-Go!!
Unfortunately, the 16u game scheduled for today do not take place and will be rescheduled for later this summer!!

Tonight the older girls took the field at home vs the Cheektowaga Raiders (18u) and came out swinging in a 24-1 win at Sullivan Park. The team collected 14 hits, led by Grace Cornell (RBI), Mya Raley (4-rbi), Savannah Beaudette (3-rbi) and Mackenzie Leigh Johnson (4-rbi) as each had two in the game. Amileah Muhisin, Hayley Richards, Kailyn Riggerman, Tessa Dominesey, Hannah Bauder and Allison Hendershot who all had one hit apiece. Allison also led the team by scoring four runs, followed by Leah Johnson, Hannah and Savannah, all with three. Grave, Mya, Hayley Richards and MJ all scored twice while Amileah, Kailyn and Tessa all scored once. Overall a very productive night offensively for the girls, but the defense is where the lights shined it's brightess as Mackenzie Leigh Johnson had a triple play in the sixth and Grace Cornell turned an unassisted double play in the seventh. Leah Johnson was solid at second base as was Savannah and Tessa at shortstop and Hannah, Dylan Baldwin and Amileah at first base. Arabella Hoppe, Kailyn and Tessa did a great job in the outfield. Allison, Mya, MJ, Leah, Dylan all caught well behind the plate in support of the nights pitchers, who combined on 3-hitter, striking five Raider batters. Grace had two solid innings to start the game, followed by Mya Raley, Tessa Dominesey, MJ Johnson, Hannah Bauder and Savannah Beaudette who all had one inning in the circle.
It was a pleasure to host such a respectful set of young ladies in the Raiders. They put the ball in play all night and we're very positive from start to finish, we will see them soon in Cheektowaga later this summer. But as for our girls it was awesome watching them play numerous positions and produce no matter where they played. The teams next game 16u game is this Sunday at the Lake Shore Storm (1pm) and 18u game is Monday at the Hamburg Dawgs (6pm). Both teams are sponsored by Chaffee Chick Design and Coops Red Caboose in Arcade, NY. Great job tonight ladies and good luck Sunday and Monday!!
