What an unforgettable weekend at the Great Lakes Showcase in Ohio! 🥎
We came into the weekend with just 8 players, and thanks to the incredible kindness and sportsmanship of so many players and coaches, we were able to compete and give our girls the opportunity to keep getting their reps.
In our first game on Saturday, our opponent, TN Mojo, and coach James Jacobs, let one of their players, Zoey, join us so we could take the field. For game 2, Cara from Diamond Girls stepped in to help and as we were heading into our dugout, Maggie from Maryland Crush, who will actually be our SS Ella's college teammate and roommate next year, offered to help us out as well. Unfortunately, early in that game, one of our two pitchers took a hard line drive off her thumb that knocked her face mask off, leaving us down another player. Thankfully, we had Cara and Maggie there to keep us at 9 and allow us to finish the game.
Heading into Sunday, we were down to just 7 players.
Once again, Coach Jacobs came through by allowing Zoey and Kaiya to play with us for our first game. In the second game, Bella, Addison, Hannah and Alyssa from Diamond Girls stepped in to fill our empty spots, including pitching! A special thank you to Diamond Girls Coach Shaun Dimino for not only helping us out with players, but also calling pitches for his pitchers throughout the game.
This weekend was a perfect reminder that softball is about so much more than wins and losses. The willingness of these players to play on another team, compete alongside girls they have known or had just met (or only knew of), and their coaches who encouraged and supported them. This speaks volumes about the character of the softball community and because of all of you, our girls were able to continue competing and make memories they'll never forget!! From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to every coach and player who stepped up without hesitation. Your generosity, selflessness, and sportsmanship are what make this game so special. We couldn't have done it without you!! ❤️🤍💙🥎
