🥜 Nuts are healthy—but are they the best snack between fencing bouts?

A few almonds or other nuts are perfectly fine. But during long competition days, eating large amounts of nuts between bouts may not be the best choice.

Why? Nuts are high in fat and fiber, which slow digestion. When athletes need quick energy between matches, easily digestible carbohydrates are usually a better option.

🍌 Smart between-bout options:
• Bananas
• Dates
• Applesauce pouches
• Pretzels or plain crackers
• Low-fat, easy-to-digest snacks

💧 Hydration matters, too! Keep water available throughout the day. When appropriate, electrolyte-containing drinks can also help support hydration. Sip regularly after warm-ups and between bouts.

A few nuts? No problem. A big handful right before your next bout? Think twice.

Good food. Right timing. Better fueling.

We were honored to welcome Mr. Tahir Bora Atatanır, Consul General of the Republic of Türkiye in Chicago, to US Sabre Academy.

As the first and only Turkish-founded fencing club in the United States, this visit was especially meaningful to us. It was a pleasure to introduce him to our young fencers and share insights into our training programs and the work we do at US Sabre Academy.

We sincerely thank Consul General Atatanır for taking the time to visit and connect with our athletes and fencing community.

Irmak finished 17th out of 112 fencers in Junior Women’s Sabre at the Tashkent World Cup.

Although it was not the final result she was aiming for, it was still a strong start to the 2026–27 international season, earning valuable FIE points.

Recovery doesn’t have to be complicated. After training, milk can be a simple option for young athletes—providing protein, carbohydrates, fluids, and electrolytes to support recovery.
