It's 1998 and I'm watching a segment on tv about a house in N.England that was made into a replica of the Redsox "Green Monster".It had a Citgo sign , was green, and if a ball cleared the gutters it was a HR. Adults and kids playing wiffleball. Brought me back to the late 70's early 80's as a kid. Digging out a batters box , using wham-o frisbees as bases to play wiffleball in my back yard in Barn
egat NJ. It was serious fun. My cousins from Avenel even introduced me to playing with the plastic" Laich" batting helmets. Lol. I had a Mets one from Shea. It was great times. I could hit HR's like Kingman into the Bagley's back yard or fire a pitch like Seaver or whomever played that saturday's game of the week. Priceless. However, that was my long ago youth and it would never come back.... Until I had a son. 2010- my son Trevor is 9 and my backyard seems to be shrinking as he's growing up. With input from my pal/ neighbor Mark we decided we were gonna clear out the woods in my yard to create something similar to what I saw on tv in 1998. This was gonna have a Mets theme though. In August of 2011 we started with the removal of the first trees and stumps. Had a few delays due to time , money and even a famous NJ hurricane but in the spring of 2013 the field was complete. With hundreds of hours of planning and building, Little Citi Field came to full fruition. A near exact replica of my Mets ballpark. We have the retired numbers in LF. Also a Mo's Zone in RF. No wham-o bases though...........................Craig R.
