Everyone is excited that Pedro is here, but I want to take a moment to talk about Sarah. 🧡
Sarah took her very first Zouk class with Zouk OC on January 5, 2022. From the beginning of her Zouk journey, she has always been an incredibly dedicated student and over the years, I’ve had the privilege of watching that student grow into the dancer and teacher you see today.
What people saw last night in this beautiful first demo with Pedro was the result of so much more than one night.
It was years of showing up. Week after week of training. Studying not only how to dance, but how to teach. Being open to feedback, even when it was challenging. Putting in the work to improve her technique, her understanding, her communication, and herself as an instructor. And continuing to care deeply about becoming someone who can give something meaningful back to her students.
As her teacher, I am so, so proud of her. 🥹
I think one of the greatest joys of teaching is eventually getting to watch your students step into opportunities of their own. At the end of the day, all you really want is to see them accomplish the things they want for themselves and to support, challenge, and believe in them along the way.
Watching Sarah teach such an amazing class with Pedro last night and then absolutely shine beside him in their demo was one of those moments for me. I know how much work happened behind the scenes to prepare her for moments like this, and getting to stand back and watch her enjoy it was really special.
And I don't think Pedro could have arrived in our community at a better time.
Yes, we're incredibly excited about what his residency will bring to our students but I'm equally excited about what it can bring to our teachers. Opportunities to train, collaborate, be challenged, be showcased, and continue growing into the artists and instructors they're becoming.
Sarah, you earned this moment. I'm proud of the dancer you have become, but I'm even more proud of the dedication you've shown throughout the journey to get here. 🧡
And this is only the beginning. ✨
