Well, the 2022 Nationals are in the books. The program fielded a team of 5 Juniors who competed in the P-100, NTI, 2-member Junior team match, and the 6-member team, which had two Juniors from California compete with the team. This is all made possible through funding, part of which is supplied by the West Virginia State Rifle and Pistol Association through the sale of raffle tickets on an M-1 rifle. The rifle that General Patton said was the best battle implement ever created. So, we are once again selling tickets on an M-1 rifle and ask our viewers to pitch in. Three tickets for $10. WVSRPA is also raffling off a C**t Python 3-tickets for $20. Email me at [email protected] for tickets.

The year the team was headed up by Karee and Kaitlyn Hutson, who chased each other across the course with Karee edging Kaitlyn by 1 point, but Kaitlyn had the best X count. These two team members continue to excel on the rifle range. Logan and Hailey (brother and sister) from California was our second pair to shoot and they posted respectable scores. Rylee Hitt and Dani Hovis were the final pair to shoot and Dani posted her best aggregate so far. Well there is always next year which will see one of our Juniors age out.

I leave you with this article. Some of you may have read it, but others may not have.

"Them better." "The credit belongs to the man {person} who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcomng; but who does actually strive to do the deeds, who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions, who spends himself {themselves} in a worthy cause, who at best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he {they} fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his {their} place shall never be with those cold an timid souls who neither know victory or defeat" Theodore Roosevelt

Well, we are getting close to going to the National Championships. Remember, the CMP requires all Juniors to attend either the SAFS or USMC Clinic. This means that if a junior does not participate in these programs, the WVJMP will not receive support from CMP.

For those who have never been to Camp Perry, you are in for a real treat especially if the weather is cooperative.

July 30 looms big. Stay tuned.

The Season is upon us. Time to get your schedules set for practice and tournaments. This year for Maryland, it looks to be a good season and they have the State Championship in September back. Hurray!
We have a lot of work to get ready for the season, one of which is to insulate the shipping container so we can set up for storage and getting ammunition ahead of the game.
We are planning a fund raiser, and need to raise around $10,000. So, get your working caps on and start recruiting new shooters. We need the range full this year. Plus, we are planning on fielding an Adult team for the State Association.
Saturdays at 10 and Sundays at 1pm.

When you believe you can, you will. When you believe you can't, you are correct.

Do not practice until you get it right, practice until you cannot get it wrong!!!

Air Rifle is one of the best tools for perfecting marksmanship skills. Speed of an air rifle is around 700 fps, for a smallbore rifle, muzzle velocity is around 1,150 fps. For the AR Platform muzzle velocity is at or near 2,750 fps. Analysis indicates that to shoot good scores with an air rifle the shooter must practice frequently to achieve their potential as the air rifle is unforgiving, whereas the shooter can get away with minor infractions with the AR, but again the smallbore rifle is a bit forgiving, but not by much. It is a good idea for aspiring shooters to shoot air rifle during the winter, smallbore during the first month when we go outdoors, and then move to the AR. Happy New Year, and it is a great time to renew your commitment to the shooting sports and excellence in competition.

Addition, once my mind gets to working. Some shooters turn up their noses to air rifle or air pistol, and for smallbore. But, when I came back to WV in 1997, I started shooting smallbore at the Lumberport indoor range, and that is after many years shooting highpower and dabbling with smallbore. It took me two years to learn how to shoot that unforgiving smallbore rifle and that was under the Coaching of Dumpy Bartlett, one of the finest shooters and coaches to ever grace a shooting range. Do not turn your nose up when it comes to perfecting your skills. Your spring will show the improvement, I guarantee it.
