Meet the Black-footed ferret – aka mustela Nigripes! 🦡 This adorable member of the weasel family is about the same size as a mink and is the only ferret native to the Americas. Once abundant throughout North America, they now only survive among prairie dog colonies and cannot survive without them. With only an estimated 300 individuals left, black-footed ferrets were once thought to be extinct. However, thanks to collaborative conservation efforts there are signs of hope for their recovery!
