In his 16th year as a pro, Zack Fischer has entered the Korn Ferry Tour winner's circle at the OccuNet Classic.
As is often the case in professional golf, and in life, the journey makes it all the sweeter ⬇️
Fischer earned his first Korn Ferry Tour card as medalist at Final Stage of Q-School in 2013. He spent four seasons on the Korn Ferry Tour before losing his card at the end of 2017, then spent the next four years competing on mini-tours and PGA TOUR Americas.
Fischer once again medaled at Final Stage in 2021 to earn back Korn Ferry Tour status. He played a full schedule in 2022 and 2023, and he played on PGA TOUR Americas in 2024 before returning to the Korn Ferry Tour in 2025, when he finished 93rd on the season-long standings to lose his full card and once again face a career crossroads as a husband and father in his mid-30s.
Fischer entered 2026 with conditional status and was battling the cut line at the Astara Chile Classic in March, his second start of the season, knowing well that it might be his last opportunity. Not only did he make the cut, he finished T11 to vault up the Points List and secure more starts via the reshuffle, ultimately leading to his breakthrough win Sunday at the OccuNet Classic.
His wife Katie, two daughters and parents were on hand for Sunday's breakthrough title in Amarillo (fittingly, his mom's birthplace). Katie has worked multiple jobs throughout her husband's career to help keep his pro golf dreams alive; she currently works as a graphic designer (she designed the 'ZF' logo on Fischer's hat) and part-time as a court reporter. During the champion's toast afterward, Fischer said that his trophy was in reality Katie's ❤️
Fischer was born in Texarkana, Texas, and it's also fitting that his inaugural Korn Ferry Tour win came at the inaugural OccuNet Classic in his home state. Orange was his team color as both a high school and college golfer in Texas, and he wore orange on Sunday to close out his first Korn Ferry Tour victory with a two-putt par from 44 feet on the 72nd hole.
