Dear BGC Members & Friends,

It is with a heavy heart that we write this letter to you. There has been a considerable number of rumors floating around the course this past week about McAvoy’s on the Green, and it is incredibly important to us that we clarify any misunderstandings or misconceptions so that you know the truth. Last Tuesday we were informed by the Board of Directors that BGC will not be renewing our contract after 10 years of business.

I [Troy] first joined the club in 1991 and have the good fortune of watching both of my sons grow up and develop a passion for the game of golf at BGC. Several members have taken them under their wings over the years and taught them unmistakable lessons about etiquette, sportsmanship, perseverance and a genuine love for the game. For that, we are deeply grateful.

We were so fortunate to have made it through the COVID years and remain in business. As many of you know, hiring and maintaining a strong and committed staff is and has been very difficult since the pandemic. We have been blessed with so many amazing, dedicated staff members whose willingness to work hard and push through adversity has enabled us to be successful. Our team is an incredible group of men and women who are like family to us.
Furthermore, we are truly thankful for the support from and friendships developed over the years with so many of our loyal guests.

We were hoping to receive one more three-year extension before retiring, but the board felt differently. Again, please know that we are deeply grateful to all of our loyal and genuine supporters.

McAvoy's On The Green will be open 9am-5pm tomorrow.

Dear Members & Fellow Goflers,

We certainly hope this letter finds you safe as our state and furthermore our community deals with an unprecedented tragedy. While these terrible events occurred in Lewiston, this area in Maine is a close-knit region and many of us have connections to those involved. Our sincere thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who is dealing with this ordeal on any level. This includes nearby golf clubs Apple Valley and The Meadows who lost members, as well as former McAvoy’s employee Justin Karcher who unfortunately was one of the victims seriously wounded and is still currently in critical condition.

This tragedy hits close to home on various fronts, including the most prevalent area being searched for the lone suspect in the shooting. Fortunately this evening, the Maine State Police rescinded the “shelter in place” orders for our neighboring communities. They did point out that the search for the suspect is still ongoing and we must remain vigilant. See the attached public notice screenshot.

After discussing this matter with our staff and our legal counsel, we have decided to re-open tomorrow with one restriction. Dew Sweepers will tee off at 8:00am (pick teams at 7:45am) and everyone else’s tee times are as normal, but we must have EVERYONE off the premises before dark. This means all carts must be returned by 4:30pm to allow our staff to clean them before they leave prior to sunset. This policy for the time being is non-negotiable.

Thank you so much for your patience, your support and your continued thoughts and prayers for everyone involved with this week’s tragedy. BGC along with the rest of Maine is definitely and we will get through this together.

McAvoy's On The Green will be closed to the public today at 1:30pm and reopening Sunday at 12:00PM to host our Member Guest Shoot Out. Sunday afternoon we will fire up the grill for Burgers, Hot Dogs, Pasta Salad and Chips for $10. THE MAIN KITCHEN WILL REMAIN CLOSED FOR THE DAY ON SUNDAY!
