Runner Spotlight. Meet Middletown's Tim O'Keefe, a 6-time participant in the River's Edge Endurance Challenge.
Why do you keep coming out for the River's Edge Endurance Challenge (REEC)?
I keep coming back to the REEC because it is a fun event. What makes it fun are the terrific organizers and volunteers that take a small local race and make it feel like a big time event. There is lots of cheering, your name is announced as you cross the line, and all the fun goodies at the finish make for enjoyable socializing post race. The course is a nice mix of cross country and trails and the trail portion has easy to follow signs on well groomed trails.
What makes this particular event special to you?
What makes it special for me is it's a terrific trail run close to home. I've been fortunate enough to take home some "hardware" and these are one-of-a-kind, home-crafted awards that I am proud to take home.
If you had a running friend on the fence about joining, what would you say to convince them to join us?
I do tell people to come out and run REEC! They will love the course whether a veteran trail runner or a NOOB. The race atmosphere feels like you are there with a big group of your friends. A bonus is the great cause the money supports, AND a double bonus, bring your race number to The Little Red Barn and get some amazing ice cream to celebrate!
