Fr. Alan is the rector of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Brunswick, GA since 2009. He and his wife Kathleen have two children and they all love Jesus, each other, and St. Fr. Alan has been actively paddleboarding and paddle-surfing in and around our area since 2013. Alan is not a "typical" Episcopal Priest and he takes this as a compliment. About Harrison Akridge:
Harrison is a sophomore at the University of Georgia in Athens. He is on his student church vestry, serves on the board of Breaking the Shackles, is in the Terry College of Business and maintains a 3.8 gpa. This is Harrison's 3rd fundraiser. In 2017, he paddle boarded from Key Largo to Key West and raised $10,000 for Charlotte. In 2019, he paddle boarded from Bimini to Lake Worth and raised $10,000 for Pipers Angels and for Cancer. About Charlotte Snyder:
Charlotte Snyder is an amazing 16 year old who is truly an inspiration to anyone she meets. Diagnosed at 4 months old, she has had many hospital stays over the year. She does treatments 3 times a day for up to an hour each time, and takes numerous pills each day to keep her young body well. But it never phases her. She always has a smile on her face and ready to take on the world! She currently loves fashion, mine craft, and you tube videos and hopes to be an FBI Forensic Scientist when she grows up. Charlotte is not a "typical" teenager and she takes this as a compliment. What is Cystic Fibrosis? Cystic fibrosis is a progressive, genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and limits the ability to breathe over time. In people with CF, a defective gene causes a thick, buildup of mucus in the lungs, pancreas, and other organs. In the lungs, the mucus clogs the airways and traps bacteria leading to infections, extensive lung damage, and eventually, respiratory failure. In the pancreas, the mucus prevents the release of digestive enzymes that allow the body to break down food and absorb vital nutrients. Cystic fibrosis (CF) is the most common inherited disease affecting the developed world, with one in every 2,500 children affected. It is a multi-organ disease, affecting the lungs, gut, liver, pancreas and reproductive tissues. At present about half of those with CF will die by their late 30s from lung disease. However- the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is dedicated and VERY close to a cure! With A ratings on charitynavigator.org and charitywatch.org, you can be assured that your money is going to a great organization focused on finding a cure. The CFF foundation was founded by CF parents to increase life span and to find a cure. In the 1950's the expected life expectancy was kindergarten, now it is late 30's.
