In March, Wisconsin and Minnesota often experiences a dramatic shift in weather known as the “Spring Thaw.” Historically, this month marks the transition from harsh winter to milder conditions, with average temperatures in places like Madison rising from around 20°F (-6°C) at the start to near 40°F (4°C) by the end. An interesting tidbit: March 1881 holds the record for one of the state’s most extreme temperature swings, when a warm spell hit 78°F (25°C) in southern Wisconsin, only to plummet back to subzero within days due to a fierce cold front. This rollercoaster weather is a classic Badger State trait!

Max Caven DM us ”I know this is along shut and the season is over (mostly?) over but if you hear of anyone finding a black bending branches paddle in carbon fiber or a DJI action 4 camera I would love to find them!!! Lost them somewhere downstream of Winneboujou before highway two in some rapids. Honestly just would love to get the footage off my camera, someone could keep it if they found it 🤣”
