The Headhunter Rat and the Snakestaff ETQ are two of the best in the field of low-vis carry. The ETQ is just about the same size as a G***k 19 mag, weighs next to nothing, and holds the power of life! I've been in bad fights with empty hands, and I've been on bad accident scenes with empty hands, and on this side of those experiences, I can tell you I'd rather fight with my teeth, any day, than watch another guy bleed out because I didnt have any medical gear. Plan and carry for the real world, not your imagined "hero" day.

Won some, lost some, took home some golds, but we are always proud of the students who are willing to toe the line. Safe travels home, everyone!

Time is one of the important considerations in any conflict. Is time working for me, or against me? If I am stronger and more skilled, then time is my friend and a tool that I can use to put more pressure on my opponent. If I am NOT stronger, then time and skill are the tools I have to regain initiative.
In application, as we saw over and over in class this morning, there are conflicts where time is working against you, and your best chance is to act NOW to take the initiative with your training and aggression. When you're fighting giants, the longer it lasts, the worse the odds get for you.
Understanding that your best chance is NOW but the odds of success are still low, and sending it full force anyway, takes courage, a willingness to lay it on the line and take your chances, and complete faith in the truth that the longer you wait, the more unlikely success becomes.

This was the finals match of Coach Sarah's first tournament, in 2019, which was the IBJJF Master's World Championship in Las Vegas. Go big or go home, right?
I'd say we did pretty well for our mutual lack of experience, at the time. I had been competing for years but had never had a coach of my own at a tournament, so didn't really know my job, and we had NO understanding of points strategy or any real interest in winning in any way other than by submission. In fact, I think this was the only match of the day that Sarah DIDN'T win by submission. We don't promote on the podium, and a few months later she earned her blue belt against a lineup of grown men.

You never know when your ability to restrain another person might be necessary.
And whoever brought those flex cuffs on the plane is my kind of guy..
