Shout out to our guy Jackson Gaskin! We all knew it was only a matter of time after basketball season ended, but Jackson has officially been called up to Captain Shreve’s varsity squad and he will make his debut tonight starting on the mound against West Monroe!!! Congrats, Jackson!! Go get ‘em 💪🏼💪🏼

What a fun night of baseball at “The Hive”! Eight of our boys were on the diamond in the double header between the Captain Shreve Gators and the C.E. Byrd Yellowjackets.

Representing the Gators: Jackson Gaskin at Shortstop, Brewer Mixon at 2nd Base, Reed Turner at 1st Base, and Cole Ramsey at Catcher.

For the Jackets: Maddox Fuller at Shortstop, Alex Moton at 2nd Base, Abram Marshall at 3rd Base, and Rhett Marshall at 1st Base.

Abram Marshall started the 1st game on the mound for Byrd and Jackson Gaskin started the 2nd game for Shreve. Rhett Marshall pitched 2 innings in relief for the Jackets in the 2nd game as well.

Byrd won the opening game 8-6 and Shreve won the encore 2-1. Both games were excellent but this goes beyond wins and losses. These young men have a bond that traces back to their t-ball days. Seeing them all make plays in the infield and at the plate for two of the most decorated programs in the area was surreal, and certainly a feather in the cap of their coaches.

Also, quick shout out to the three Grit players who play for other schools. Brody Parker continues to build on the stellar season that he had as a Freshman last year for Elysian Fields. Hayden Horton is playing all over the field for Loyola, and Brock Geter, who was in attendance to show support tonight, is getting run in high school ball as an 8th grader. We’re all super proud of our guys. The hard work that they’ve put in for years is paying off and we’re just enjoying the ride.

Here’s an update on one of our Freshman guys getting some varsity run. Hayden Horton has started 4 games so far for the Loyola Flyers, playing catcher, 1st Base, 3rd Base, and pitcher. In his first high school pitching start, Hayden threw 6 innings and struck out 8 while only surrendering 2 runs. Great job, Hayden 💪🏼

It’s been awhile since we’ve posted! These days, the majority of Grit Baseball players are preparing to start their freshman season of high school baseball, so we wanted to give a quick shoutout to our Shortstop, Maddox Fuller. A few days ago, Maddox was informed that he made the varsity roster for CE Byrd High School, a 5A school in Shreveport, LA! With 45 players between the Freshmem, JV, and Varsity teams, the Yellow Jackets have one of the largest baseball programs in the region. Although it’s rare for freshmen to make varsity at Byrd, Maddox set a personal goal to make the squad and his hard work is paying off. We are all super proud of Maddox and we’re looking forward to watching our Grit boys on the diamond this year!

On this weekend 3 years ago we played in the Sterlington, LA sports complex for the first time. This weekend we’ll be playing there one final time.

Wanted to give a quick update on one of our own, Brody Parker. Brody is still eligible for 14U but he’s a grade ahead of the rest of the team and he was totally ready for East Texas high school baseball. As a Freshman, Brody made the varsity squad for Elysian Fields and he has really impressed. Brody currently bats 2nd for the Jackets on a talented EF roster and has played nearly every position in the field, committing a team low 3 errors. He’s pitched the 2nd most innings on the team (30.1) and he has recorded 3 wins, 0 losses, and 1 save. He has an ERA of 3.42, WHIP 1.61 and he’s struck out 30 batters while only surrendering 20 walks…AS A FRESHMAN. A young freshman at that.

Brody was the unquestioned leader on the field for Grit Baseball, and while we miss him on our team, everyone knew he was ready for “the show”. Although he’s traded in his Navy and Columbia for Orange and Black, he’s still one of us and we’re all proud. Great things are in store for #1.
