Parisfield Brussels Griffons

Parisfield Brussels Griffons Brooksville, Florida. Parisfield Brussels Griffons are healthy, happy, adorable American Kennel Club We are based in central Florida.

This page is for Parisfield Brussels Griffons -- all the darling, sweet Griffies who have enriched the lives of their owners over the years. Some of our Griffs have won breed championships, agility titles and other awards. Some are therapy dogs and visit the sick in hospitals. But most are the constant and beloved companions of their owners. They are the happy face the owner sees at the end of a l

ong day, or the silly face that makes the owner laugh, or the sad face that wants to comfort you when you are feeling low. Every Griff is different, but they are all the same in wanting to be our best friends.

Four sisters, two brothers. Two will stay here at Parisfield, four will soon be on the way to new homes!

A visit from our friend Lisa Lynn, and her special smooth Brussels Griffon, Sweet Pea!

Pint-sized Parker was surprised to find six griffons about his size here at his home base! He was thrilled to be the biggest one in the room for once! He got to boss the rowdy juveniles around! What fun!
The difference is that he is two-years old weighing 6 pounds and they are 10 weeks old weighing 4 pounds. When he comes back in a month, the 2 who are staying will be his size! Eventually they’ll be 10-12 pounds, the normal size here. His tiny stature is unusual but coveted because he may help to keep size down.

She’s such a good mom, very patient with 5-week-old puppies who are learning to eat on their own, but still prefer a meal with mother. In this litter, there are 4 rough coats, like dad, and 2 smooth coats, like mom.
They are adorable at this age! So curious, exploring everything, like Muffin the Pekingese, who is also very patient with them.

Recently, a Griffon owner posted a message about her dog's illness, and asked where to donate for Brussels Griffon health research.
The best place to donate is the Canine Health Foundation, which every year donates millions to researchers and scientists who study canine illnesses.
There is not currently a study of Brussels Griffons. Meg Prior raised donations to fund a major study of CM/SM in Brussels Griffons in 2004 by Dr. Simon Platt, in which 81 Brussels Griffons got MRIs & DNA collected at Emory University in Atlanta.
The goal was to determine which Brussels Griffons were carriers of genes for CM/SM. The study showed that there was no way that it could be predicted, because there are so many different genes involved in creating the CM/SM condition (Chiari malformation/Syringomyelia). There is not currently any way to track all the elements involved, so sadly there is currently no guidance for breeders about this condition.
The good thing about Canine Health Foundation is that you can designate which breed your funds are to support, and they will hold onto the donations until a study is done. A few years ago, it took a minimum of $80,000 to fund a study. I suspect that number might be higher now. Since our breed is so small in numbers, there is not a lot of interest in studying it. But this is a worthy cause. I donate to them for Brussels Griffons every year and leaving them money in my will.
The website is www.akcchf.org.

Paraskevidekatriaphobia - say that word quickly three times! I can't even say it once. It means "fear of Friday the 13th", a condition that is going to affect me and my dogs' handler, Ely, for the rest of the year. Ely's dog show van was packed with equipment and canines and about to embark for the weekend shows in Lakeland, Florida - when his van broke down. Is there anything worse than a car breakdown when you are trying to meet an important deadline? It took an hour and a half to get help. When he finally got to the show, he had to rush his Great Danes to the ring and missed the ring time for Brussels Griffons.
Then the good news - our dogs showed their hearts out for Ely on Saturday. Baby Bramble had fun his first time in puppy class. Parker won Reserve Winners Dog. And May garnished Reserve Winners Bitch, which I'm proud of as much of the time that May is in the ring, she looks confused, like she thinks she's supposed to be somewhere else! Our judge was Gloria Kerr, who is admired for her strong knowledge of dog structure and movement.
Ups and downs, that's dog shows.

To watch the Brussels Griffon in the Toy Group on the Thanksgiving Day televised broadcast, go to YouTube and search National Dog Show 2025: Toy Group. The black and tan smooth who won Best of Breed is Star, she is the half sister of our Champion Burt! And an aunt to many of our griffies.
To see more Brussels Griffons in shows, search Toy Group 2025 and click on Westminster Kennel Club. You will see Star again with her red-headed handler, Jamie Klute, plus many more Brussels Griffons of both coat varieties, rough and smooth.

Photos of Burt taken around home because he is retired from dog shows now. He has a lush, full beard. In the photo of him standing, you can see the black coat like a horse blanket across his back. Burt's color is called belge; it comes from the black & tan gene of their sire, Grand Champion Marsdon The Enforcer, owned by Beverly Strange of Savannah.

Sound movement is very important! The black & tan smooth is our Champion Alfie with his handler Ely Betancourt. He won Best of Breed on this day. Another important element is to have the tail at a confident, alert angle, as Alfie does here.
