The weather’s warming up 🌡️ and the sun is shining 🌞 — perfect time to open the doors, let in some fresh air, and chase some fresh gains 💪

Here’s one of our go-to deadlift prep routines:

🔁 3–5 sets of each: • Medball Slams x5 (focus on hinge + speed)
• Straight Arm Pulldowns x10–12 (keep those lats engaged!)

Then we get after it with 6x3 Kickstand Deadlifts.

The short answer—YES. Here’s how you can incorporate them into your training:

✅ Beginners: Build strength & control in end ranges with minimal soreness—perfect for easing into training.
✅ Athletes: Max force output at key joint angles without fatigue—ideal pre-competition.
✅ Injury Rehab: Strengthen tendons & boost blood flow with zero joint stress—great for tendon health.
✅ General Lifters: Break through sticking points (bench press, squat, etc.) & build end-range strength while being joint-friendly.

Our guy Kevin, putting in work yesterday morning! Him and his wife Kim began training with me 4 years ago. They consistently wake up early 3 days a week to workout to kickstart their day.

He may not enjoy everything he has to do during training, but he understands the benefits it has on his health improved quality of life. It may be easier to get that extra hour of sleep 😴, but if you are truly looking to change your health it takes commitment, sacrifice, and consistency.

A basic speed drill that teaches both front and back side mechanics. The Horizontal Wall Knee Drive, allows athletes to break down the movement without losing the intent of speed.

Set Up:
1. Start with a straight arm plank against a wall. (emphasize trunk and glute engagement)
2. Position one leg up with the knee and hip flexed about 90 degrees and the opposite leg in contact with the ground.
3. Pull the foot on the ground up so it assumes the up leg position while simultaneously shooting the top leg down and back.
4. Alternate steps with a focus on speed from both legs, and pausing at the top.

You can progress the movement as seen in the video by adding a tap emphasizing elasticity and bounce off the ground. The focus in this progression is not only speed during the pull but ground contact time from the top leg.

Strategies to keep you out of the kitchen and on the court:

1. Gradually increase the amount you play
2. Get plenty of sleep/rest allowing your body to recover
3. Fuel your body with plenty of water and Nutrition
4. Follow a lifting program designed for the demands of pickleball

Nothing can be more frustrating than an injury that prevents you from doing what you love. Linda, a working mom of three, struggled with knee pain and shoulder discomfort. She wanted to improve her health so she could grow stronger, not just older and be able to enjoy activities like traveling, dancing, and walking her dog. Encouraged by a friend, she connected with Nate, a trainer, and began her fitness journey by getting a personalized plan.

Over the past 3 years Linda has consistently invested in her health, working out several times a week. Her knee pain is virtually gone, enabling a pain-free trip to Croatia, her shoulder discomfort is significantly less, and she lost over 10 lbs. She jokes that she “still doesn’t love exercise, but having a trainer and a supportive group keeps her on track.” Linda’s dedication shows the power of commitment, the benefits of stepping out of your comfort zone to prioritize wellness and the importance of having a supportive community in this journey.
