Today the 88 ran the Sr. Champ LO206 biggest money race of the season offered by Pomfret Speedway. During practice he decided to switch the clutch, to see if it would fare better than the last one in a long duration race. He was happy with the switch, but he didn’t time trial that great. He started the feature in the 15th position out of 22 karts. Feature started and there were a few quick cautions, all of which Kyle was able to skirt by unscathed. After the second caution, the field was lined up single file to try and avoid the wrecks, and some don’t know what single file means. Some think that single file means to go three wide in turn three well before the restart zone and pass while still under caution…. And of course it was allowed and the green flag flew. Cost Kyle two positions as he wasnt prepared for karts to be thrown three wide under caution, when it should have been single file. Needless to say, he gained some ground and he ended up finishing the feature in the 13th position. (Out of 22) Thank you to Kaitlyn Gada for all of her effort in getting this race off the ground. We appreciate you! We also appreciate all of our sponsors who stick by Kyle even when the wins are hard to come by. Next up, Labor Day Shootout.

It was a beautiful day for the Nate Appell Jr Memorial Race at the Pomfret Speedway. With last weeks finishing order for time trials and the invert, Kyle started the 50 lap race in P3 out of 22 karts. When the green flag flew, he quickly made his way to P1 in turn three, but slid to P4 but the time they hit turn three again. Coming around turn two there was wreck and they restarted in positions of the last completed lap, meaning Kyle took the green in P1 on the restart. The outside lane got a better jump and Kyle settled into P4 for some time. Another caution came out and it was single file restarts from then on. Towards the later part of the race, Kyle’s chain guard was really heating up and his arm was being burned. The exhaust made his seat extra toasty and he was literally being burned while driving. Uncomfortable and in pain he fell to P9 or p10 (can’t remember) and that’s where he stayed until the very end when he crossed the start /finish line in 12th place. Overall, a good day of racing, honoring a great kid. Green flag flies again in two weeks.

Wet day at the track today. After a rain delay, and track drying delay, Pomfret Speedway made a great attempt at getting the races in, especially the special memorial race. Kyle ran one round of practice and had good speed. To beat incoming rain, the second round of practice turned into small group qualifying where he finished P1 with the fastest time in his group. When all was said and done, with the invert, Kyle was slated to start third out of a 20 kart field. As fast as the track was hustling to beat the rain, the rain eventually won. The feature was rained out and we will race in memoriam of Nate next week. Unfortunate because Kyle’s kart loves the cooler, damp weather. That’s when it’s the fastest. If you want to see some great racing, join us next week!

Wishing all of today’s drivers a safe race. The #88 is off to Guatemala for his first mission trip, so he won’t be in attendance. He’ll be off helping to restore local dwellings, feed the children of the villages, sharing rhe word of the lord, but most importantly strengthening his faith and making memories of a lifetime.

He’ll be back at it on the 27th for the memorial race. See you then!

Today was a good day for the #88. After a very frustrating start to the season, Kyle was ready to throw in the towel and cherry pick when he raced instead of consistently running for the season. He went on vacation, relaxed, and decided that he was going to keep on going. Not only because we owe it to his sponsors who don’t give up on him, but most importantly because he’s not a quitter. He picked himself up and had a great race today. Started heats in the rear (11th) because he didn’t race last week due to vacation. He raced up to 7th and with the invert he started P2 in features. Got an ok jump at the green flag, fell a little bit trying to get inside. Quickly made a solo run to catch the top 4. Very briefly took 3rd and then settled back to 4th when 3rd place cut under him and had the momentum to keep going. Crossed the start/finish in 4th, out of 11. Kyle had the 3rd fastest lap time, which he worked hard at getting. Proud of this kid today!! As always thank you to our sponsors!

** Kyle leaves for his missions trip to Guatemala the morning of the next scheduled race. Unfortunately he will miss the race, making July 27th his next appearance where he will run in a special memorial race. Danko, I know you told Kyle today no more trips to the bahamas! What about Guatemala ?! 😂

Race #5! These two peas in a pod are back at it! The track provides a lot of opportunities for Kyle but I think the best connection for him here was/is a friendship with his buddy Carson. They laugh together, learn together, help each other and just all around a wholesome friendship! This season has been a little bit of a struggle so far but kyle will be trying again and chasing the checkered flag later this afternoon.
