A bench outside of Briggs Library on the SDSU campus was dedicated to Prairie Striders Running Club legend Bob Bartling on Aug. 26, 2026, which would have been Bob's 100th birthday.

Among Bob's many services to the club was serving as club librarian, a task he began when he bought a lifetime subscription to Runner's World decades ago. The collection was housed in the basement of Bartling's Nike Shoes for many years.

It transitioned to the Briggs Library in 2015. Bob faithfully logged index cards with articles from various running and wrestling publications right up until the day he died Feb. 24, 2024.

Mark your calendars for an event that will honor the late Bob Bartling on what would have been his 100th birthday.

Prairie Striders Running Club and the archives section of Briggs Library at South Dakota State University will hold a ceremony Wednesday, Aug. 26.

A bench outside the library bears a plaque honoring Bartling, who died Feb. 24, 2024, at age 97. He was a charter member of the club and a legend in Upper Midwest running circles.

The day will be marked with the dedication of a bench, refreshments and the playing of a podcast that was recorded six days before Bartling passed.

The dedication is at 5 p.m. on the south side of Briggs Library. Reminiscing and watching the podcast will be in the archives section of the library until 6 p.m.

Note: the time for the bench dedication was listed wrong in the club newsletter than went out this week.

As summer fade away, we take a look back at our Predictor races and Run4Brookings.
Congratulations to Predictor Mile champion Trevor Hohn and Predictor 400 champion Author McGlade.
Kudos to Katie Jones, who oversaw both events with help from Kati Merkley and many other volunteers.
This year's Run4Fun averaged 60 young runners each week. Look for it again in July 2027.
