Heading into the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season, National Weather Service forecasters at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) are predicting “above-normal hurricane activity in the Atlantic basin this year.”
The season, which runs from June 1 to November 30, is estimated to dish out between 13 and 19 total named storms, with six expected to be hurricanes and three to five of those to be major (category 3 or higher) hurricanes with winds exceeding 111 mph. For the record, NOAA is more often right than wrong, with 70 percent confidence.

NOTE: We Canopy Breezes have never bought into the long-term hurricane “weather-hype.“ Not to mention, very few of us have the skills to pick up a board and enjoy a session of 8’ - 10’ swells. Furthermore, this is not Hawaii and East Coast and Gulf beaches will be closed to the public for sure.

WE DO NOT DISAGREE with the fact that the remains for both Andrew Comyn Irvine, who vanished 100 years ago and famed climber George Mallory are indeed who these searchers say they are. Even the DNA has shown and will prove to show that. I just find it interesting that these tough 1924 Englishmen took the time to monogram their names within their socks and backs of their shirt collars. By: Owen ClarkeHoleček cut Húserka’s pack loose, and in the process found his friend’s headlamp. “Then the horror set in.” Now Holeček could see that Húserka was jammed completely upside down, with one of his arms trapped. He spent the next two hours trying to free his friend, working by headlamp, and finally managed to pull Húserka out of the fissure.
This small success belied a grim reality. Húserka was free, but he couldn’t move his arms or legs. His spine appeared broken, and he showed signs of internal bleeding. Increasingly, he became incoherent, lapsing in and out of consciousness. Four hours after Holeček entered the crevasse to rescue his partner, Húserka died in his arms. The Dallas Cowboys and quarterback Dak Prescott have finally come to agreement on a contract. It will be a four-year, $240 million contract, that makes Dak the highest-paid player in NFL history!

The deal includes $231 million in guaranteed money over the contractual period and was signed just a day and possible hours before the game against the Browns being played today in Cleveland.

Prescott was entering the final year of his current contract. The long, drawn-out negotiation ended with him earning the biggest contract in league history, valued at $60 million a season.

What’s the most exciting athletic event in the country today? At Canopy Breezes™, we’re going with the D1 NCAA XC Championships in Charlottesville, VA. Both the 10:20 a.m. Women’s 6K/11:10 a.m. Men's 10K, races are slated to be some of the very best!

Picking today’s women’s top team might be easier, but crowning the individual champ, is tough. Parker Valby of UF and Katelyn Tuohy of NC State are set to square off. Let us Valby and Tuohy are gritty competitors. Their head to head record is now 7-1. Katelyn posed a 6–0 record against Parker prior to Valby’s recent historic 6k Zimmer Course run at Nuttycombe in a staggering 19:17 (CR). This rivalry has a similar feel to it as the XC duo of Gerry Lindgren and Steven PreFontaine. (both 3-peat XC national champions).

1969 at the NCAA D1 Men's XC Championships in Van Cortlandt Park, Bronx, NY, is when the world’s eyes were opened to how fantastic this duo was. As the Freshman, PreFontaine, gave it his all for a 3rd place finish. Although a total of 29 teams/254 individuals competed, it was the duo that got the headlines. PreFontaine would go on to finish 1st the following 3 years.

Parker Valby, the 2023 NCAA champion in the 5,000 meters, signed a NIL deal with Nike. She announced the deal in June. Valby, a sophomore at the UF, ran the 5,000 in 15:30.57 in hot conditions in Austin, TX, winning by 9 seconds.

For Katelyn Tuohy of NC State, this could be her final NCAA. Instead of heading into the indoor season, there is a big possibility that she will move to the professional ranks, sign a huge endorsement deal, (Tuohy has had an NIL deal with Adidas since last November), and immediately start focusing on the 2024 Olympics and her first Wheaties Box.

Note: In 2022, Valby was the runner-up in this same event to Tuohy. Valby took off strong off the line and opened up a big lead throughout the first half of the course. Tuohy, the tough New York/Hudson River runner, reeled her in by the finish line to come out victorious.

Our prediction is an NCAA victory for both the NAU Women’s/Men’s. Today’s meet will be streamed live on ESPNU/ESPN+.
