Dear friends and students,
As most of you are aware, I had a mild heart attack Tuesday morning, June 16th, and was kept in the hospital for observation until my surgery, which was scheduled Monday, June 22nd. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for all of the prayers, well wishes, and thoughts during this time.
Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, my bypass surgery was postponed. A DVT, or deep vein thrombosis, was found the day before my bypass surgery was to have been performed. Since having the surgery puts me at an increased risk for developing a pulmonary embolism, my doctors have advised me to treat the DVT first and then have the bypass surgery. Until then, I will remain under my doctors’ care and following directions very carefully!
I apologize for not putting this out sooner. It’s not an easy thing to post personal health updates on social media and we all have enough drama in our lives without having to deal with someone else’s! Still, there are people who are concerned and have been eager to hear about how I’m doing, and I didn’t want to leave everyone hanging.
And one more point: I was very fortunate that I wasn’t alone and was “talked into” going to the emergency room at the first signs of a heart attack. I was also lucky to get great care from the medical professionals I encountered. Please, familiarize yourself with the symptoms of heart attack as well as DVT’s. Recognizing either can help save you or the life of someone you love!
Meanwhile, I’ve been ordered to stay away from work and all but the most minor exercise for a time, and I trust my medical team completely. I’m a little tired and a little overwhelmed and may not quickly respond to private messages for a while, and I appreciate your patience and continued good wishes. I have so much to be thankful for, and the wonderful people in my life are at the top of that list.
Thanks again for all your support.
