A good friend of ours recently took a whitetail doe and, while field dressing, discovered these three fetuses.

Twin pregnancies are very common in white-tailed deer, and triplets do occur—especially in healthy, well-managed herds. However, conjoined twins are extremely rare in wild deer. They form when identical twin embryos fail to fully separate during early development.

In most mammals, including deer, conjoined twins rarely survive to birth or long after.

Finds like this are uncommon in the wild and offer a fascinating look at the biology and natural variation that exists in whitetail populations. Nature never stops surprising us.
