This is the second round of drop testing on the MGA from an airplane at a low altitude pass, and then at 1000 feet. For the first round I cheated a little by using lens covers that held the optical pods together, which strengthened the unit against damage. This time we tested with individual lens covers and once again the MGA survived without damage.
In the first round the unit impacted directly on the top, on the dovetail, from the 1000 ft height. That was ideal for survival. This time it impacted from the side at a rearward angle, and still did not cause damage.

We drop tested the AB NightVision MGA from an airplane first at low altitude, then at 1000ft, and it survived both with no damage. This was a initial prototype housing that was uncoated aluminum, but only differs from final production in the placement of the lanyard attachment points. Given the ridiculousness of the testing, it was built with throw-away lenses and junk tubes, but fully functional. From a safety standpoint: while camera angle makes it look like the high altitude drop was aimed at the buildings, we were off to the side over the runway, the forward speed and fall time was factored in, and the unit landed in the center of the large field as intended. It is safe to say that the MGA can handle the bumps of nightly use.

Introducing the new MGA from AB NightVision. The Manual Gain Articulating binocular has all the proven features of our RNVG-A, with the addition of manual gain control. The first units are shipping out in a couple days to our dealers who will be displaying them at SHOT. Our other dealers will be receiving samples to evaluate shortly after. Specs and pricing will be released soon. The MGA has a rotating power switch that also controls the gain. A push-button switch controls the IR illuminator. And yes, we went a different route on the naming because RNVG-A-MG would be getting a bit ridiculous 😂

Here is a teaser preview of a new system we are coming out with. The first prototypes will be on display at SHOT. We hope to have the first production run ready to ship within 60-90 days. Some of the details, such as pricing, are yet to be determined, but stay tuned and our dealers will be releasing that information as it comes available.
